how to create images for a skybox?

Post by markus »

Hello all,
what is the best way to create the six images needed for a skybox?

Are there any tools for this task?
There are panorama stitchers out there to help to make a 360 degree panorama out of a couple of fotos.
But that is not exactly what is needed for a skybox.

Any suggestions?

To make a skybox I suggest you that you use terragen
http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/

Here is a tutorial that might help you:

(but forget the last part about loading it in quake3...)

hope it helps

you could make images with a camera...or by taking screen shots from within a game or 3d app...use a photo editor to give it a bubble effect and make it appear more realistic...you can buy the textures online or something also... possably even find some free ones.

this is one thing that not many have tried to build editors for really.
unless you consider paint apps...

wish I could be more help sorry.

personally I would create a 3d scene and use screenshots or take pictures and use blending and distortion features to make it look right... this is were talent and creativity come into play really.

worse comes to worse you could use a blue sky and use 3d elements for detail like clouds. search google for skybox textures and see what you find.

Best of luck!
