IRR RETRO GAMES

Post by guezt »

Hello everyone.

Mostly, every one is aiming for a large and
complex game as I am.

Coz ive seen lots of cool project but has been
abandon or not release for quite sometime now.

May I suggest to all good irrlicht user to
create a long range and short range project.

Short range project should be add to main
web site as "FREE IRR RETRO GAMES."

A replicate or look a like RETRO GAMES
like space Invaders, Galaxian, Pac Man
Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, etc..
which is
complete and purely written in irrlich engine.
hopefully done in 3D. 2d will be good too.

I beleive with complete short range games
every one can learn from it how to
create complete games.

And some other people may just want to
play with it. and eventually create one.

I olready seen asteroid, tetris and it
should be included in "FREE IRR RETRO GAMES"

------------------------------------------------

With small and complete working games
I think every one is beneficial.

1). with lots of FREE WORKING GAMES
this site will be more popular

2). Even non programmer will go to this
site just to Download the games. and
eventually want to create one.

3). Minimize the forum help, they just have to
study some open source free small game.

4). Most donwloable RETRO GAMES will be
popular I mean the Author.

5). Just for the fun.

I Wish some user reply on this and what RETRO
GAMES their planning to create.

I dunno how the other members will feel about this, but I think it's a great idea! :D I LOVE retro remakes, and some of the one's being made at http://www.remakes.org are pretty darn good.

My only concern is that I will get so carried away with my retro remake that I'll neglect the bigger project! :D As for what I'd remake... hmmmm... would be something like: Dizzy, River Raid, I dunno there's so many.

On a more serious note, there is a potential copyright "bullet to dodge", but I think (if this goes ahead) that as long as people don't steal images from the games they're remaking - it'll be fine.

This could even become a regular contest? (with perhaps different themes each time? I dunno  )

I'll search some Atari 2600 titles
and choose one to remake using
irrlicht. :D

I hope its legal to remake since
this is not to be in commercial and
for educational purposes only
and not a duplication of the original.

Hiyaaa

Small games? Great idea. It's better to finish a fun little game, than to work on a huge game forever with nothing to show for it. Be careful with Atari remakes though. Atari went on an indie developer suing spree a couple years ago since they're still actively selling remakes themselves. If they caught wind of people making free alternatives, they'd probably send a cease and desist.

As ive noticed the game link is gone, i beleive there
should be a game link from the main menu.

Game link
...project scheenshots << Where this is the long range project scnshots
...retro games project << Where this is a playable short range project

x4861 already created a short cool playable project "Penguin" a maze game
sort of a pac man or something, and I already seen his long range project
RPG type game.

Penguin,Tetris,Asteriods saigumis ala missile command and other complete
short range project should be put in retro games project.

An awesome engine like irrlicht should have a GAME LINK to show off,
just thought.

i love the idea of retro games, but y make it remakes?
new games are always more exciting than playing remakes, mainly cause u just cant touch the greatness of the originals (cmon, asteroids was da bomb, and pacman, but pacman3d? ur jokin...)
i think i might start a couple retro, but anyways, great idea.

p.s. for those makin remakes, plz dont change to much from the original. thats wat we liked about them
