another very powerful modeler

Post by afecelis »

Dunno why I hadn't heard of this one before but it seems to be a great modeler. Although it's not free, its price range is not too steep.

check Silo's website for info and downloads. The learning version is free but with some limitations.

Yup, demo is limited to 100 tris

Is a good modeler, anyway...

It gave me exactly that impression (being similar to wings3d).

But I was curious about how it's not mentioned massively.

me like wings too  unga unga

Pretty cool editor, thanks for the link!

Just fyi: I downloaded it and have been playing with it since last night. I was unable to download the learning version (the link is not active) so I downloaded the 30-day free trial, There seems to be no limits with this 30 day version on the number of faces you can save/export. I loaded one of my low poly meshes around 500 polys, subdivided it and saved it back with 2000+ polys with no problems... I have not tried any of their plugins, so I do not know if they are limited running plugins.

Where did you find the plugins? The demo doesn't seem to have any.

Hi,
Where did you find the plugins? The demo doesn't seem to have any.
I didnt even try to run the plugins, so I didn't even know they were not included in the demo. I'm suprise that they are not included because it appears that this "demo" can be a full version if you enter a key. I looked on their site and forums and did not find any plugins there either... strange.

all I could find was UI skins. :(

Overall this is not a bad 3D modeler. Shame it does not open .rwx files can't seem to find one that can anywhere.

perhaps you can export your renderware stuff to something Silo can import? You may continue your modeling tasks from there.

note: well, in the end it's very similar to wings3d. Perhaps it's got some pro features wings3d lacks off?

so far it's got no renderer nor texturing or material creation options, so so far it's=to wings3d, but $$$$

even the workflow is "wings3d-ish" hehehehe

it also gave me the impression to be a tool developed by the Q engine team, dunno; just an impression

That would be great if I had renderware. All I got is a renderware model that I would like to to view that I can't b/c I can't find any utility that can open\view\convert it.

oops! sorry, i didn't know that.

I just found this app that reads them: Accutrans3d. check the formats it reads and writes:
http://www.micromouse.ca/fileformats.html

30 day trial here:
http://www.micromouse.ca/at3d_install_2-9-11.zip

perhaps you can convert your model with it into something suitable for silo.

BTW anybody try this program?

http://www.doga.co.jp/english/

I have tinkered around with it. Neat program if you need to make spaceships and the like.

heheheh,

yup, I got Doga as well. It's a great premade-stuff-put-together modeler, but it has also got some nice rendering and materials' stuff. The Japanese galleries are impressive and they also got some nice movies there. It may be powerful if you feed it enough premade models. But I've seen it used not only to create bots and ships, but also for some nice architecture work.

It's what i used to trace out some of blaze's ships  you can then export and polish them in another modeler.

too bad they haven't updated it since 2002

hehehe

I'd say I miss more pro features in Silo than I do in Wings3d...

indeed, I was funny to discover that the last 1.4 is adding some uber old basic Wings3d funcionality, and there's something in the workflow...that I find yet much slower, compared to Wings...

nah, it's good, but I'll stay with my Wings...it's too good ;)
