let me explain.. guest allows anonymity.. in the real world for the sake of good people anonymity is essential...did you people learn nothing in school? how about on the street?

point is this.. unless it's a major security hole..it has to stay.. but it should be reworked.

I'm going to say this one time and one time only NIKO I will help you fix, moderate, anything you want to the forums.. I'm no pro at web design and I havent actually built a forum or worked with php.. but I'm also the guy that came here 6 months ago knowing nothing at all about C++ and last night released the most advanced GUI builder not only for Irrlicht but I think on the planet.

You make the next move..wiether you post here..or e-mail me... if the hacker problem gets out of control which it already has before you go taking the forums down please contact me I WILL solve this problem for you or die trying.

If I have to custom build a forum for you that can not be hacked or spammed and I will. when I read that you had been hacked for the 3rd time from some noob ass 7331 h4x0r fag it pissed me off so bad my face turned blue.
Big-headed jackass.

There I said it and I'm a guest!

After reading through quite a few of the "guest" account posts, I would think the account should be shutoff. A few reasons, IMO:

1. Many posts are nonsense and misinformed (as in it appears that they really don't know *anything* and haven't tried to learn *anything*) many of the questions posted are easily answered in the wiki, homepage and FAQ.
2. In a number of instances, the posts are simply inflammatory comments.
3. It's counter-productive. There are a lot of good Irrlicht people in the forums who try to help noob posters but why waste the time on an anonymous "guest" who may never post again?
4. Users should express an investment in the Irrlicht forums by taking the minute or so it takes to register. It also gives a better indication of the popularity of the engine if you can sample the number of registered users and the frequency with which they post.

Just my opinions...

Wow, nicely put IntMain, I also agree with this. I thin that if they are interested enough in using the Irrlicht Engine they could take 2 secs. and register an account.

How is the simple fact of registering going to fix this? Perhaps it would be better if you made it a requirement that they read the Wiki, FAQ etc etc before signing up?
2. In a number of instances, the posts are simply inflammatory comments.
Those who have registered are not immune to making inflammatory comments.

You must be a "the glass is half empty" kind of person. You could also look at the other side, that by helping the "guest" the person will be impressed by the great community you have here that the person will return and make a contribution.
4. Users should express an investment in the Irrlicht forums by taking the minute or so it takes to register. It also gives a better indication of the popularity of the engine if you can sample the number of registered users and the frequency with which they post.
Well, in my opinion a better indication of popularity would be the number of projects currently being worked on.

@"guest": Your anonymity is quaranteed by the simple fact that you're using a guest account. You can offer any point of view you wish.

No use in debating issues with a ghost...

[EDIT] I see two "porn" links added to the Offtopic forums by "guest" account posters... Yeah, I imagine they're *really* interested in Irrlicht...

Gee, that wouldn't have "you" would it? It's so hard to differentiate between all these anonymous "guest" postings.

No, my anonymity is not guaranteed, every user leaves footprints behind. Anyways I have been on forums where they have implemented what the people here seem to want. People would end up too scared to post b/c they could be banned if a Mod didn't like them. Which led to people bypassing the banning and creating new accounts just to flame. It just rolled downhill from there.

and there have been more than a dozen posts that pertain to Irrlicht or aid in it's development since those posts.

If you wish to think that, that's your prerogative.

Actually, turning guest off doesn't solve the problem of flaming or just plain stupid posts. My forum requires you to register, and click a link in your email to finish registering. I still get these posts. If people don't want to register, that's ok. It doesn't bother me. I have it off in my forum strictly for security reasons.
Most of the guest posts here are just people asking questions about irrlicht. Some have even answered questions, and their answers were correct.
As far as I'm concerned, Niko wants to keep the guest option, so this debate is just a mute topic.
If it exists in the real world, it can be created in 3d

Well, there you go... BTW, it's "moot"...

@"guest"; it appears that you have missed my point entirely.

I suppose dealing with "guest" account posts is up to the individual. If you want to spend your time answering posts like this one:
So, how to make a 2D physics engine in Irrlicht? I want it to be able to handle every possible primitive... How would you do it? I would start making a struct with the objects, but I dont even know how to display a primitive on the screen... Not even plotting a pixel.. Could I have some help with this? Some example code would be awesome.
Knock yourself out. l8r...

The worst flamming incident I've ever seen -not on this forum- was by a registered user (threated to turn a whole bunch of people into the FBI for absolutely no reason). The people that post useless spam and flames aren't going to stop just because the IP now has an associated username and join date, they'll continue. Turn it off, leave it on, doesn't matter to me. I'm not a spammer (not that you'd know that whether or not I was registered), so it's irrelevant to me. If you turn it off, I'll just make Bolshevik an account; if not, I'll probably just continue using Bolshevik for my guest name until I feel like joining.

I do find it ironic that this thread seems to be leaning toward flames anyway...
