tools for landscape

Post by Edgard de Haro »

Hello. I do not speak ingles very well, but it will try to be clear: I am beginning to match but I have a doubt: whereupon program become the landscapes? I have 3ds max but it seems to me that in this single case it would serve to make objects for the scene no? You can say to me how I can make the landscapes and/or the exteriors? Thanks

If you want to create terrain, take a look at tutorial 12:
http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/tut012.html

Hope that helps!

checkout FreeWorld3D, costs 20 or 30 dollars, but it's worth it.

As a noob, I'am having hard time to figure out which tool I am going to use for that purpose. I found pnp-terrainCreator which look cool and can export the outdoor scene you created under different file format. i.e export bmp for the heightmap, sector texture (jpg, bmp) and very cool stuffs like : export XML files for objects and vegies that sits in your world, very cool. But, but, I have some pb importing the heightmap for the moment. There appear some uggly steps that are tied to scaling issues and bmp files color depths.
So the one million dollar question is (at least for me) : can anyone tell me which tool created the tutorial heightmap file incuded in the sdk terrain exemple ? cause this one never steps.

thx

but..?
any paint program that can make bmp img can be used.
(here 'terrain-heightmap.bmp')

a heightfield map is just the black/white bmp file
i suspect u mean the beatiful texture files that is used -on- the heightfield -?

that i dont know..
Regards.

I asked that because I found some nice landscape tools but I was not able to import them properly into Irrlicht. I've had some stepping problem when rendering. I've never had any texture problem. Thanks to Vermeer's help, I discovered other tools and one of them seems to be exactly what I need and early tries shows that it's OK. So thanks Vermeer, I didn't notice the "FAQs, Howtos, and tool lists" furum.
