The "Thank Niko" Thread! (come and show your suppo

Post by Grey Lantern »

I am sure a thread like this has been done before, but I wanted to start one that people could show their apreciation for Irrlicht (and Niko) in. The reason? If you read the forums at the moment there are a tonne of bug reports (but not in a "Bad" way - just an active interested community) and Niko said somewhere he was "stressed" at the moment (though I am not sure what by, but that is none of my business).

Anyway, I think a thankyou is in order for his continual work on Irrlicht as he heads towards 0.12.0 with a lot of promised fixes it must be a hard time for him (though also enjoyable - as there is no feeling like crossing a few bugs off the "to-do" list) ;)

So Thanks Niko for Irrlicht and the on-going development. May I suggest when it reaches version 1.0 that you put up a "donation" link (pay pal or something) so that you can be rewarded for your hard work. I know you don't want paying, but it may keep you going when you feel like throwing in the towel.

Yes there are other engines out there but irrlicht is relatively lithe (especially when stripped down/customised my DX8 only .dll with NO gui except image and fader - using my own custom "real gui" class with ITextures* and Draw2DImage) weighs in at just 680k - ish. I don't think I could even begin to strip down the other "all purpose" engines out there as there is too much inter-dependencies.

It has been a pleasure working with Irrlicht and reading your code has taught me things I didn't know, even after coding D3D "manually" for some time.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! :)

Niko has been thanked quite a few times. Like, with ever new release. :D
But it is a much deserved "thankyou".
Irrlicht is quite an engine.
If it exists in the real world, it can be created in 3d

Sys specs:
AMD 3700+ 64 processor
1.0 gb ram
e-Geforce 6600 graphics 256 mb onboard ram

I'm sure Niko knows how much we appreciate him and his hard work. I also think the best way to thank him is developing some stuff, showing it in the community, creating new things, generating ideas, helping others in their way to learning the engine, writing a tutorial, creating and sharing some artwork, writing a good game script, etc etc etc.

we all got some up and downs; the important thing is to keep on moving forward.

I also want to thank the community for keeping the forums alive and active.

multiple thanks!!!

I'm new to Irrlicht, but I'm pretty sure I will use it for next game project. I was afraid I would have to write something like this from scratch for the next 4 months or deal with crappy, half-finished alphaversions somewhere from the net.

So I was very pleased when I found this site and found out that Irrlicht is not only far advanced AND easy to use, but also free :)

I'm very happy I found this site and would like to add a big Thank You too :P

Hehe, thanks all. Always nice to read all this :)
I only said I was stressed because of a new job and I always just need a little bit time to acclimate and so I don't have that much time, but it is already getting better :)
