I'm looking forward to brew my own batch of absinthe. I aim to try as much things as I can in my life (except gay sex ). To do so, I will need to distillate alcohol.
In lack of live resources, I searched the Internet on the subject but I still feel unsafe about it. All the articles I found looked to be written by wierdos that have probably been blown to pieces by now.
Do any of you guys ever distillated alcohol, or have a close relative who does?
If you can't handle creating simple alcohol, a process that's covered by just about every high school biology text available, then how do you expect to distill absinthe?
"Wormwood, Artemisia Absinthium has been used for centuries as a moth repellant, general pesticide and as a tea/spray to repel slugs and snails. Before its' toxicity was known it was used as the name implies: a worming medicine for people and animals."
Just purchase a bottle if you can... it's simpler than RTFM and you won't poison yourself in the process...
"You may have heard of the alcoholic drink "absinthe" a green colored beverage that is now illegal in most countries."
Not to mention the potential legal complications...
I'm actually looking to do the same sort of thing. Lemme know if you find any decent resources.
Although it isn't absinthe I want to distill.
I recently moved to this house that has about a dozen mature fig trees, so I'm gonna try and make my own fig brandy.
edited: just noticed they seem to have stopped selling it for legal matters!!! damn! last time I checked everything was buyable. But it contains some detailed info that might help out.
there's another way to distil alcohol without using liebig condensors, distillation columns and the like. If you put an alcoholic beverage into a bowl, preferebly one with a wide base, then put it into the freezer and let it freeze solid.
The water freezes out first (differing freezing point much like the distillation uses the differing boiling point) so you will end up with the alcohol in the centre (plan view) and the water round the outside. Just scoop out the central ice.
I would'nt recommend distilling absinthe though, it's more than plenty strong enough to seriously wipe you out in its natural state
