Windows a virus?

Post by AlexL »

Is Windows a Virus? No, Windows is not a virus. Here's what viruses do:
1.They replicate quickly - Okay, Windows does that.

2.Viruses use up valuable system resources, slowing down the system
as they do so - Okay, Windows does that.

3.Viruses will, from time to time, trash your hard disk - Okay,
Windows does that too.

4.Viruses are usually carried, unknown to the user, along with
valuable programs and systems. - Windows does that, too.

5.Viruses will occasionally make the user suspect their system
is too slow (see 2) and the user will buy new hardware. - Yup,
Windows does that, too.
Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental
differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are
running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact
and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they
mature.

So Windows is not a virus; It's a bug. :P

That's a sophism.

The most successfull piece of software on earth has got to be more than a simple bug.

this is why i hate linux users so damn much! you don´t have anything better to do than flame windows? windows is the best os of the WORLD because 95% of all people use it!!

but because your so experienced tell us whats so bad about windows (windows xp for example?)

every OS has bugs and some disadvantaged and so does f*cking linux! windows xp works good, is fast, looks good, supports a hell of a lot drivers and software and is alot newbie friendlier than anything else (okay, mac osx works right out of the box, but thats another story you know)

now dont tell me that im a windows l4m0r because i used linux for more then a year now and i think of myself that i pretty gained some knowledge about it - compared to windows linux can SUCK MY DICK AND F*CKIN LIKE IT!! (still linux is an alternative)

thats all i wanted to say ...

whoa!

monday stress?

I use both, win and lin and enjoy them. I just use use them for different things. Windows covers all my work-gaming needs with its wide range of support and coverage for software and drivers. I think that's window's best value. And I use linux for learning-testing purposes and in the middle of that experience I've discovered I can also have fun and work with it. Linux's best value is that it's free and if tweaked properly you may turn it into a complete working platform.

remember, it's a free world; just make your pick!

ps. Final comment: my linux experience, besides showing me new alternatives to do things, has also made me appreciate windows some more; and now I see that when windows loads up it does the same stuff than linux in its boot process, only that it doesn't show it to the user in order not to scare him away, and then it makes installing software and drivers as painless as possible whereas in linux "I screwed up my Gentoo" more than 10 times having to reformat and start from scratch only because I modified wrongly a loading script. Now I know what to touch and what not to in linux and my system is stable; but it cost me a lot of hours, frustration, cursing and almost resigning to linux, but then after I got it to work I thanked it for teaching me a whole bunch of new stuff. :D

GFXstyLER;
I didn't post this to flame windows at all, I still have it installed on my other box and enjoy it very much. This is nothing more then something I found the other day and thought funny, I didn't meant to offend anyone with it; I should have stated that in the first post.

Well AlexL,
I am a winXP user and I about fell out of my chair laughing.
My Wife even wanted to know what I was laughing about, so I read it to her. She even thought it funny. (and she has no since of humor)
That is a great joke.
(oh, and I reallly don't like linux. too much work to do so little)
If it exists in the real world, it can be created in 3d

Sys specs:
AMD 3700+ 64 processor
1.0 gb ram
e-Geforce 6600 graphics 256 mb onboard ram

Well, I have a Slackware box that I really dig, but day to day, I'll stick with XP.
The Linux systems that I have/will add to, are going to see real production work for doing animation renderings. Modelling and setting up will be done on the XP machine, then handed off to Linux for the rendering, cause I know that it can handle running really lean and going solid with all available resources for days, weeks, or more at a time.

I thought the Windows/virus joke was a little lame.
How about this one:

Two guys are flying into Seattle in thick fog, get lost and can't find the airport.
The pilot looks out his window and sees a guy standing at the window in a building, so he opens his window and says "WHERE ARE WE?"
The guy in the building shouts back, "YOU'RE IN A PLANE!"
So the pilot shouts back, "THANKS!" then quickly changes course and despite being blinded by fog, falls right into the landing pattern at the airport and makes a perfect landing.
His friend says, "WOW! That was amazing! How did you find the airport like that?"
And the pilot says, "Well, I know right where the airport is from the Microsoft Building."
Friend says, "How did you know that was the Microsoft Building?"
Pilot says, "Easy, when I asked him where we were, the help he gave was 100% correct, while being 100% useless!!!"

see this is what I'm talking about everyone getting all hairy about a DAMN JOKE.

anyone that got mad about this is a complete loser obsessed with making other peoples problems there own.

but besides that none of you called him on his definitions...
NONE OF THOSE THINGS DEFINE A funking VIRUS

the true definition of a virus is a piece of software that copies itself.. windows does not funking copy itself. it has the ability to but does not do it by nature therefor this whole thread is rendered completely stupid and useless I can't believe I bothered to waste this much tim..

Crap gotta waste another minute...

I forgot he said it wasn't a virus but a bug.

Well it's not a bug nor does it have many bugs that it doesn't fix itself.

However there are a lot of idiots out there that believe human error is a bug.

If you ask me humans are quiet buggy themselves.
