Finnally got FireF***ed...

Post by Midnight »

:?

Today I was forced to use firefox,

As it turns out Firefox is now my prefered choice when connecting to the Irrlicht forums since IE seems to take ages most likly due to bandwidth limitations on the forums server... at least I'm guessing.

Anyone know what the dramatic impact on these forums loading times is for certain?

I dunno, I was gonna post about this.
Especially lately (past few weeks) I get time-outs and phpBB critical errors more and more often, besdies just generally being slower.
And I've been switching between Firefox and Opera.
Must be with SourceForge somehow lately.

well, welcome to the fox team Midnight!

The only problem I've had so far is some flash pages not showing properly, but for the rest Firefox rox. And yup, it is in fact much faster. Right now I'm trying out Opera (Niko's top favorite) which is supposed to be even faster and I got my free key today on its birthday. So far I've found it to be pretty ok.

and yup, the slowdown is a sourceforge problem. Perhaps the database is already too big, dunno. Gotta check that w/Niko as well.

hehehehe, next thing you'll say is you've been linuxed!

Yeah but linux has it's uses.

Unlike firefox which really just serves to create more valnurabilities for me.

I'm always going to use windows for my personal use but I see myself owning a rack of linux servers someday.

BTW I'm using IE Firefox didn't really seem to make a difference since this is obviously a server side problem.

But if this is an issue with sourceforge then why is it only the forums and not the main page??

I took your advice and I'm now using opera rather then firefox which has been removed from my computer.

Doesn't really matter though... oh well I'll try opera for awhile maybe it will grow on me.. any idea how long this free key will last?

Firefox all the way for me... i couldn't use a browser called Opera no more than I could use one called Ballet ;)
actually its the whole license key thing that turns me off.
plus, can Opera compete with firefox with adblock, noscript, spellchecker, translator, imagezoom and spoofx extentions installed?

hey i didnt advise removing firefox, all i said was to give it a try Guest. the key is good key, it was just a special giveaway for their anniversary. im pretty sure its good for as long as u have the app, but i havent looked into the licensing.

bitplane, its not so bad, better than Tutu or Fairy, man those ones are nuts... hahahahaha. :D

I haven't checked out the extensions yet, but they do have several. adblocking is good, i think they have script control, spellchecker probably who knows, and the rest blah idk look it up lol. but its really nice and stable and really clean cut.

Don't get me wrong I love firefox and I tell everyone I know to use it, but it's nice to check a few different things out now and then.

the guest was me and I'm using IE again... I don't like how opera or firefox render.

some people complain about how windows apps load before they are fully loaded but I like it... it allows me to skip downloading things I don't need.

I definitely prefer Firefox (and reccomend it to everyone who understands English) over IE mainly because it renders CORRECTLY according to the XHTML/CSS/JavaScript spec. When I'm developing a webpage, I develop with Firefox, create the look, then get out my 3 ft. monkey wrench and beat in hacks to make IE render "correctly."

"Correctly" here is "how the W3C says to render" not "how Microsoft says to render."

I just find it easier to start with Firefox then move to Microsoft then the other way around... and I'm betting that at some time a real standard that is standard with appear, and I wont have to play Browser Roulette.

I feel that Firefox renders faster on my machine, and I feel that it renders the PHPbb page layouts faster, but perhaps that's perception. I havn't done a real benchmark yet.

Firefox has quite a way to go though... I hate the download system.

I love Firefox! :D
I love Linux too, and I'll never use that stuff that Microsoft calls a "product" again!
Macs are cool too, I'm saving up for one.

tabbed browsing...

Post by buhatkj »

i know there is a difference of opinions on this, but i always have like 15 webpages open at a time, and the tabs i find are a much more useful way to switch between them than trying to guess which "Inter~" window was the one i wanted and getting it wrong a bunch of times....some people tell me just to alt-tab till i find it, but i hate having more than one window maximized at a time....it confuses me.
so i use firefox, because it is free, and has the best tabbed browsing support of any free browser ive found so far.
