animation package, premade animations?

Post by buhatkj »

what do some of you guys use to do your character animation?

i generally use milkshape to do modelling of stuff and i've been trying to figure out how to animate a character i've made and its REALLY HARD!!! is there a better package i could be using to do this stuff?? maybe one that lets me import animations from other models, or maybe just has to presets or something?? i have a really hard time getting anything to look right :-(

animation is hard in any package.

being the easier max5 or better + character studio biped + max skin modifier.

I have used it at work, and now I usually animate with character FX (it does not let you import animations)

Milkshape has not got weights. I mean, it can only assign a weight of 1.0. That fully stops me for using it.

I model with Wings among othe rmodellers.

Character Fx has weights of any value -full weights- so the bending of legs, arms, is quite more accurate.

Still, it only animate. And has some limits, though.

The easier is the expensive one I mentioned.

also long as i'm at it, anybody out there got animated character models they have made that they might let me download, or would like to see me use in Fmorg in the future??
if anybody wonders, either md2's or milkshape models would be best. also if you have .X models they would be great also :-)

(I'm the guest who gave away an animated character model in other thread (unless there has been more than one) , same guest in this thread, and same always speaking about directx format. No guest anymore :))

wish I had the time...sorry, can't.

in the meantime, you could go to Polycount.com , download and use those models as placeholders (as legally can't be used other way than for playing with them in quake 2 game) till you have md2 or x format customly made by someone for you. At polycount there's only quake2 models, md2. As also animated dx models animated are really hard to find on internet, though the format is way more powerful.

Milkshape (with no real weights) , character fx (imho, better) are do allow you to export directx animated models.

IMHO wings3d is the best free polygon modeler
