Lovecraftian Rpg

Post by Snake »

Hi all guys. I am an Italian programmer and I am working on a RPG game based on the Cthulhu Mithos. I am currently working on the game engine, wich is already half functional. What I need mostly are graphic guys (possibly a 3d man for modeling and a 2d drawer for creating textures, panels, and so on) and maybe another programmer to help me.. any1 from Italy here who wants to join in? It's all for the glory by now, but if something cute comes out we could try to release it... Of course the game is based on IRRLICHT!!!!! I've never seen something so good, fast, easy to use and totally open before (I say this not just because it's my first experience of 3d game prog he he). Thank you Niko and all the guys from the forum for your continous support and feed back... I think I'd never made it to create something without your help.

:D

OK, now I think there are regulars actually abusing people through the guest feature for the purpose of getting rid of it...

On topic: Not italian and am already involved in my own indie project, but I would like to hear more about your plans. After all, "Lovecraftian RPG" can imply alot of different game styles (since RPG is now applied to anything where you do more than shoot at something *sigh*)

Well surely I am no big corporation. And then, I like to do things on my own, where I can (of course I cannot build a 3D engine on my own, that's why I choose Irrlicht, that is a very affortable and fast 3d engine, not to mention easy to use). Besideds, what would I learn using something programmed by others? Probably nothing.

There would be no problem: if I am not desired here, I can stop posting anytime...

Thank you for your interest. I agree with you about nowadays RPG definition.
What I want to do it's something in the middle between an adventure game (detailed plot, good character definition, well developed dialogs) and and RPG (partial character creation, character improvement, free action and some combat).
I want to create an "investigation" rpg, just like the Call of Cthulhu paper RPG.... it will be hard, but I'll enjoy to create something different from the classic FPS game or pure hack and slash medieval RPG....

...um, yes they do. Do you think there is some big magic kit out that can make any type of game you'd want? Cool!!! No programming skill needed!!! NO.

Besides, anyone using irrlicht for graphics are likely making their own game engine out of several free api's.

My opinion is that its not an rpg unless you can level up.

why not make an rpg where all that level-up stuff is gone? i think an rpg without this leveling stuff would be much more fun, otherwise everyone just thinks about "have .. to ... get. ... next ..level ..." :/

by literal definition, an rpg is a "role-playing game". You pretend to be a character. Of course, most FPS's are also role-playing games by this definition, but I see no need to absolutely requite leveling up in an rpg. Of course, most ppl enjoy leveling up
You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.

RPG means "Role playing Game". In the rule system I use (the Call Of Cthulhu role playing game) there is no character level. But indeed it is an RPG. Of course the character improves, but no level stuff :D

You guys didn't understand me fully. Take zelda for example. I wouldn't consider that an rpg. It is more of adventure. The character itself only improves when you change to . The items is what makes the character better which why it isn't an rpg.

Uhm.... unreal tournament.
the unreal engines is mainly for FPS but a little knowledge you can make anything, that goes for any engine just about. now onto my next point.

I wasn't implying that they don't do any programming at all. I was simply saying that big game developing companies don't want to spend a shitload of money and time, to make something that thousands of people have already made, with many different types of games there mostly used for etc. etc. So, you're gay. shutup.
