Why is Irrlicht called Irrlicht?

So would Germans say, if they are polite and friendly to the international people in this forum

But that isn't the reason I'm posting here. I'm a fresh Irrlicht programmer. The first, what me made confuse is the name of this great engine: Irrlicht. Irrlicht is a german word (I think so ) and means "ghost light".

So what is the name for? Is it a short form?
