Paintball - Extreme Airball...

Post by geekworx »

Greetings,

I have had this project on the back burner for about a year now and initially tried to get it working with Ogre3D.

Having recently discovered Irrlicht, I have managed to do more on this project in the last week then I did in the previous weeks.

Basically it will be a FPS based on my favourite Extreme Sport ... Paintball. It will be an online game only (very similar to Americas Army) and will allow Player Profiles to be stored online.

Two initial screen shots have been release and are available at:

I will be adding more in the upcoming months.

The game will support Windows, MacOS, and Linux and will be released for free download. :)

So anyway ... enough chatting now ... let me get on with the writing of the code.

I have just finised implementing the basic game framework that supports Game States. :)

I have also created 8 different skyboxes (2x Morning, 2x Day, 2x Evening, and 2x Night), these will be randomly called when you play a map or do a training drill or whatever, adds a little dynamism to the environment.

I am now busy building 8x surrounds, my idea is to have the basic map/field surrounded by a randomly selected surround (for a lack of a better word) that will also make each map a little different each time you play it.

I have done prelim tests on all these functions and they work. After I have finished all this, I will then start moving on to the modelling of the players and what we call bunkers (air inflated obstacles).

The game will be released for free and will only be available to play online and LAN mode. I have also finished integrating the physics engine and the networking engine and will be integrating the sound engine shortly.

Things take me longer because I have to cross-compile my code for Linux and MacOS every time ... being an avid Linux user I really don't mind,

Anyway, catch you all later and thanks the guys who created IrrLicht, this engine rocks. I also want to thank everyone on the forum as well.

Oh yes ... if you want to see an mpeg file of a prelim skybox test I did then go here:

There are also some more of the random backgrounds viewable at:

These screens are going to change in layout a little as I am not happy with the logo placement.

Anyway ... see you all later. :)
