What graphics card do you recommend for newest directX?
Hi all,
I am using Geforce Fx5200 and I think this is not enough for running all functions of newest DirectX (apr 2006)?
What affordable graphics card would you recommend (Geforce/ati/Sis, etc)?
Thanks in advance.

The ati 9600 is around $80, I got mine sometime last year and its not the best, or close to, but it keeps things smooth on my 800mhz peice of $H!+.
If you have a better proccessor and more mem (i'm only at 256meg and it gets awful on loads), It's recommendable as a great mid-grade card.
Although you didn't ask about audio, the audigy se sound card where I live is $30 a pop. If you happen to have the extra pocket change.
P.S. Don't shop at walmart for you graphics cards. Find a pc store for great prices on hw.

buy current gen
i wouldn't buy anything older than an ATI x1XXX series of nvidia 7xxx series card. i have a 6800go in my laptop and already i know it won't support shader model 3.0 i just got the darn thing last october, and already outdated
EDIT - i was wrong, it does support shaders 3.0!!
so i guess maybe 1 generation back isn't so bad....
anyway, here's some pretties from newegg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814131007
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127201
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814133155
all those are <125$, and the first 2 are <100$
i prefer nvidia, despite the fact they cost more for the same performance cuz they have better drivers.

If you want it on the cheap, there is a GeForce 6200 on Newegg for less than $40. I picked it up, and like it - not love it, but hey, at that price for a decently fast fully Direct3D9 compliant video card you really can't go wrong.

Why not wait?
This late in the game I'd probably wait for DX10 cards - Can't be too long now.
