Animated Models with 3D Max 8

Post by Rainbringer »

Hey, we got a little Problem with the animation of 3ds Models in the Irrlicht engine...
In the HelloWorld Tutorial of Irrlicht you can see an animated Model of a *.md2 File... if we want to paste a Model in *.3ds format we cannot see any animation, the Model stands absolutely still... We think we made something wrong with the animation in 3D Max
Now our question: How can we make a correct animation which can be shown in the Irrlicht Engine, for example in the Hello World Tutorial?

We know this is not a Forum for 3D Max, but we have no idea where we have to look for our answer and we think, 3D Max is a wide spreaded animation program, so somebody round here has got a little hint for us.
Thanks for answers!

You could simply search this forum before asking. Or read the feature page of Irrlicht to learn about supported formats and then use google to find an exporter working. For your first question: No, .3ds files are not animated in Irrlicht, choose another format such as .md2 or .X or .ms3d or .b3d (did I miss one?)
For the exporter: Search, I never used those things.

hybrid's right (man! I think it's becoming a custom to post that after your posts, hehehehe  ).

For animated characters you should try .X (improved loading in irrlicht 1.1), md2, or the marvelous animated b3d format by Luke.

Of course you must find the proper exporters for 3dsmax. There's plenty of info on that oin these forums.

Thanks for an answer! Yeah sry we searched for KeyWords 3D Max, 3ds but we didn't find anything helpful (Okay we did not search very carefully...) We'll try with .X

X is a good choice, using Panda's directx exporter for max.
