Irrlicht makes my computer restart

Post by tomas.vymazal »

I've got a big problem. I am using Irrlicht 1.0, my computer is Athlon XP 2400+, 512 MB RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro, Windows XP SP2.
After running any irrlicht project (including tutorials) within 2-5 minutes, my computer will crash and restart. Few times, I've got crash report and I noticed that module which caused the crash was atioglxx (which is ATI's OpenGL driver). But I'tried Direct3D renderer and it crashed too. I've tried to reinstall windows, install different versions of Catalyst drivers and nothing helped. Does anybody know solution?

Maybe you have overclocked your card and it actually blasted the 3d engine of the card (well almost such that it only crashes when it's hot enough) or maybe your cooler fan isn't working?

It might be as well bad RAM on the gfx card or something like that. Try changing the card and try running other 3d apps which do more than rotating a cube to track t´down the problem. But it's definitely no Irrlicht error :)

There is a ton of stuff it could be.

Since it happens after 2-5 minutes it might be a heat issue. It works until it overheats. It is a common issue.

I had similar problems and it turned out the primary DIMM slot on my motherboard went bad. It was not easy to figure out. Loading graphics drivers (and who knows what else) into glitchy memory is bad ;).
