Question about parallax mapping

Hey I am using Irrlicht sometime now and I was wondering something about parallax mapping. In the PerPixelLighting demo the parallax effect vanishes once you get close to a wall. A friend of mine thought it is a matter of implementation and that there are other implementations that do cover it. Although it might look a bit choppy I suppose, if you're too close to the wall. Anyone have an idea about this? If what my friend says is true I'm wondering if this would be a nice new feature for Irrlicht

That might have something to do with ther clipping, however in other games I play such as Elder Scrolls Oblivion, When you get withing collision range it goes to a flat 2d texture. So it might be something with DX. Somethings don't have an answer.

PerPixelLighting is implemented trhough shaders (which are hard-coded into irrlicht), so if you wanted to do some research and write a more complex shader than the one niko wrote for Parallax mapping, you might be able to come up with something more effective :)
