Chocobo Racing

Post by raven_coda »

So I've been working on a chocobo racing game and I'm to the testing stage. I know my water needs help but I'm not sure what I need to do to it. There's no real title screen or whatever. Just a simple gui to get you started. I've only made on map so far, but let me know what you think!

Well, I think it's a cracking little game, good job!

Just need a little work around the edges, Title screen, credits screen, Installer, pdf game manual etc

Not bad at all!
I'm impressed, although the running animation needs work, it looks like you're just gliding along. The sprinting animation is good though!
Also, some of the NPC chocobos crashed into the wall at one point and were stuck.

Very cool! Good work - plays very nicely. Yeah, the AI got stuck for me as well - one just after the water, another on the corner of the house just before the finish. It also has a few speedup/slowdown issues, most notably as you turn onto the bridge. Maybe try disabling the shadows? (I know they look good - but they are damn slow; when I added them to Witch they absolutely crippled it). Otherwise, keep it up! Just need more levels now - are you planning on adding some structure to the races - tournaments or something?

Yes it's nice and it has potential.

And if in you check the option "Climb Walls" the npc's won't get stuck in the map.

I liked it and it's fun to play. :D

Great job! A bit more work and it will be a great game. I, too, had problems with the ai. Reading back on your article about ai steering, you mentioned you had points where the ai turned etc. This seems to work ok, but ALL the ai players do the same thing this way. Around turns the one on the inside gains a little over the one on the outside. Maybe add different "routes" for each ai player. Otherwise, great job, I hope you post the next release here on the forum!

Very nice game [demo] indeed ;). Like all the others here I had roughly the same suggestions - improved ai, etc. The only thing that really kept me from pwning it was steering, it can be really slow and take valueable seconds to turn around a sharp(er) corner. Great work though :).

Thanks for the feed back. I know the ai does need work as well. I continue to work away!
