About donations

Post by Serg Nechaeff »

Code: Select all

And also, I don't think a lot of money would be donated, so I am still guessing.
paypal suxxxxxx :)

Niko, you may want to setup an account within one of the registators like regnow (US) or sharit (Germany) and sell Irrlicht for say 12 bucks (they will take 2 bucks so you will have 10), so anyone who want to donate will buy the engine (or a number of copies) using creditcards or checks or telephone and later they will send you the check or transfer the money to your account (worldwide).

Wow.. they skim 20% or a $2 flat fee.

I've never had a problem with paypal, but then again, I've never had more than $500 in it, which is where you have to start paying for stuff.

I like it because my webhosting pulls from it, so when I sell stuff on ebay, I use it to pay hosting fees.

That, and now that you can donate via Paypal straight off of Sourceforge...

<-- Note the $ next to the gear with a hammer.

Niko doesn't have one, or I would have clicked it long ago.

PayPal sucks (they are subfirm of Ebay, which also sucks). I wouldn't want to give a non-bank firm my money nor data, especially not if it is owned by Ebay. (my opinion)

However, since niko is in Europe and many other people are too, he might simple publish his bank account info - I would happily send some money over.

Or he could create one of these cafepress (sp?) shops to sell Irrlicht t-sirts, coffee mugs etc. :D

my 0.02Euorcent

Ah, I did not know of shareit. I'll have a look on it.
The donation button was just an idea, I don't know yet if I'll create one really.

donations

Post by dingo »

Well wouldn't it be better for Niko to have a few different ways to donate...ie a/c details for europeans.....paypal for those who like to use it...and any other for anyone else.......

That way you wouldn't have to use paypal if you didn't like it but still wanted to give money...

BTW I personally really hope Irrlicht will not end up as a $12 (or whatever amount) product that you have to pay for before you can use it. The fact it is freely available is a major reason so many ppl use it and provide feedback etc.

BTW If it was to become a sold product, it would be hard to set a price for each different market (ie non-Euro, non-US dollar price setting) This alone might make it too expensive in some markets and drive some ppl away

Dingo

PS Great work Niko with the releases and please keep Irrlicht freely available with the option of donation

Good idea, I would also like to reward Niko's great and hard work on the engine with some euros.
