Huge terrains

Post by pin3 »

Hello,
I'm doing some research about Irrlicht. My question is does it have an optimisied method to display large scale terrains? By that I mean some sort of Landscape Paging method.

Thanks for replies.

no, sorry irrlicht doesn't have a paging terrain at present.
irrSpintz has terrain tiling which you could use though, and lightfeather has a paging terrain which could be stolen with enough work

knightoflight has done a realy good terrain node based on Stefan Roettgers terrainengine libmini.

I use it in my project and have to say that its perfect!
It can manage really huge terrains. Mine is atm 3600 km² with just a heightmap of 2048*2048 pixel! And its really smooth!

The links and discussions to the node are in this thread: http://irrlicht.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/ ... sc&start=0
