3DS Race track model

Post by trooper »

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a basic race track, to start some testing on a racing project.

Not off-road or terrain, just a regular racing track.

I'm no 3D model genius, so if anyone could help would be great.

If anyone could let me know what they could do or share,
If you cannot help please dont flame this, most of us are programmers, not artists, so give me a break !

Nothing too fancy, or over the top, just a good old Daytona style track would be awsome 8)

Thanks in advance

Because it might be fun to do i've started putting something together for you, basically just a very simple oval track. Won't get much done today as i'm off to see Iron Maiden later but if you're interested in what i've to offer then i can send you it when i have something more finished :)

You have a PM waiting :)

Off to the Cardiff one, should be good!

I've done a bit more remodelling of the track to make the edges a bit smoother and a better tarmac texture as the other one was one i just found quickly but was a bit horrible  Also made some changes so that you don't need to disable the back face culling. Tis quite fun and i'm learning a lot about modelling in milkshape as i go!

www.turbosquid.com is a great place for free highly detailed, textured models. Just do a quick search with 'free' and it'll list loads of free textures and models.

It certainly is an excellent site for free models, and non-free models too if you've got some cash lying around. Not sure if they'd have any race track models though!

hey goaty,

did this race track work ok for you.

It was a .MAX file, and I saved it as a .3DS.
But when loading it says in the output windows, texture "n001b.bmp" (or something) not found,
then the next line said, Loaded "media/daytona/n001b.bmp" ok.

I am confused if the texture loaded ok or not.

The model loaded, but had no textures, and also seemed incomplete, I could see a track, and seating, and a few other bits, but lots of gaps and open space.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

I had a friend convert it to 3ds from max for me as I didn't have a package capable of doing it correctly. I think he used maya in the end, but it loaded great yes. Sorry if this is not help.

I "messed round" with it a bit in 3dsmax, exported it to a .3ds file, loaded it into MilkShape3D and it looks OK. I could email you the .ms3d file if you wish - MilkShape has lots of exporters for the format of your choice. :D If Irrlicht won't load it as a 3ds file you could try a .X file, for example.

Note: When I loaded the .3ds file in MilkShape it was too big for MilkShape's viewports! I had to scale it down a few times, translate it to the origin and rotate it -90 in the x-axis.

Hey Sio2,

if you could mail it would be great !!

I have 3DS max 8, and milkshape and blender, but not really played with them much.

Thanks for the offer, if you could mail me

Guess it's on to some physics now.

I saw a great model of this car somewhere, and the wheels even moved.
I haven't worked that out yet, but Rome wasn't built in a day :!:
