edit:
The 3 most dangerous things against your completing your project:
1. A Programmer with a soldering iron.
2. A Manager who programs.
3. A User with ideas.

20% of the times I had soldering Iron in my hands, I got burns on them.
So its not that bad, is it?

Hmm... I think more dangerous is programmer who think is electrician, not just only who have soldering iron in hands.
I remember when bought my first multimeter some months ago and wanted to test it... so i put it in socket in my house... (European, 220V)...
In one second, whole high-rise building was without energy and stick from multimeter melted a little

Heh, I had almost the same idea.
I put 500V capacitor in the socket and then KABOOOOM!!!!!!!!~!~!~!
Well, not exaclty, only the ?fuse? poped out, so I felt really happy

What I learnt back in my first practical semester - was a electronics noob back then (and still am
- don't use a phone jack to grab power. Or you'll end up with a short-circuit. But my boss told me to use this jack, so I soldered around (remember ... noob) and got the adapter working - the cheap power supply of the test computer stopped working after it was plugged in however

Ok I'm not like you Noobs with electronics.
I actually build working electric devices as another hobby.
Like a metal detector, shortwave radios etc.
But I guess that's what happens if ones father works at Denel.
