I've been trying to do that now, but in my first time i wrote my code, it was all in c w/ no classes. The second time it was in classes, but with a horrible design. Now, i'm trying to take my time at least, and write good code.

I've decided to release Centaur Force as open source under the LGPL Licence.

Messing around w/ some settings, and i actually came up w/ a pretty cool water effect, not solid though (any ideas?). Anyway, i'm chugging along, as my blog says, but progress is slow. Anyway, exams are over tomorrow, and then i'm home free.
Demo will be out soon.
DEMO!

Quite unexpectedly to me too, i decided that i'm going to release a demo tomorrow. It will feature :
from Changes.txt
Centaur Force Version History (starting with 0.3a
-- 0.3.1a -- 2/26/04
-------- Features
--> ICE Based
--> Basic level management
--> Basic Entity Management
--> Basic Event Handling
--> XML parsing
-------- Changes
--> more features developed
--> entities, levels, events
--> XML
-------- Changes from 0.3
-- 0.3a -- 1/1/04
-------- Features
--> Called 0.3 since i already have a lot of the base
concepts down, their just not implemented yet
-------- Changes
--> Started Rewrite
--> Using ICE now
--> most portions based off of IrrlichtRPG
Also, this is the end of version 0.3.1a
Now, i move onto 0.4a
which will feature
from TODO.txt
TODO : Currently for v. 0.4a
--> Scripting integration
--> Sound
--> fix bsp bug
--> start basic level format
--> More Entities
--> Develop Event Handling More
--> Rely less on keless's code you theif!
I'll post a link tomorrow, as i can't access ftp from school

It looks promising. What does ICE stand for ? The net or the math library ?

2. One guru-programmer said that if you write your best code then you, by definition, has not enough skill to debug it. (it means also "to assess" it )
iirc, it was Linus Torvalds who said it.

Robomaniac,
I downloaded your file and extracted it. When I double clicked on the "Centaur Force.exe", the game loaded file. Then I clicked "New Game",... about 30% through the load I got a Error Dialog and the game crashed.
The dialog said "Centaur Force --> Developed Using Dev C++". The dialog was the normal "send error report to Microsoft" dialog that I see everyday. Below is the technical information associated with the error.
I am running Windows XP Pro, 2.4ghz, 512mb RAM, GeForce ti4600 128mb.

Yes, the code is still very buggy, and i'm working on fixing most of them. The third person camera in the demo still doesn't work, so you can just press n or m (forget which) to switch to the first person camera. The third person cam will be in fully when i finish implementing my event subsystem

Restructuring and Call for Help
Posted: Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:02 pm
by Robomaniac
Centaur Force is receiving a full "restructuring." I call it a restructuring, as i have a lot of code already, and none is really going to change, however, i need to reorganize the whole base of it. I'm also going to start with some very important things instead of doing the main gameplay first. Example : I'm going to start and finish implementing physics, networking, the menu, sound, and other things before i move onto the gameplay. This will make programming hopefully go faster since i will have the main base done. Once those are finished i'm going to write the game code itself.
Also, i need some help from some experienced Irrlicht, and networking programmers. I need some Irrlicht people to help me with the gameplay, as I've reached a point where i can't feasibly write the entire game myself in a reasonable amount of time. I need a network programmer to hopefully integrate some (if not most) of the networking code as i have no idea even how to approach this.
Also, i'm not going to release centaur force under open source because i don't think it fits the design real well. It will be released under shareware licence. Thus, anyone who decides to help me will receive some sort of reward or payment yet to be decided, but a licence will be included for anyone who helps.
P.S. --> a web designer would be nice too.
