You only need to have a computer constantly running if (a) it takes a long time to boot or (b) you have things constantly running that NEED to be running (like FTP servers or, say, Bittorrent downloads).

I reboot the laptop a couple of times a day. Takes less than a minute to boot up which gives me time to plug-in all the hardware (earphones & optical-mouse). And saves on battery life :)

Also given that you need to "reboot" consoles all the time for games, it's not such a bad thing for a "games machine" (given Irrlicht is primarily designed with games in mind).

Where I HATE Windows is that it REQUIRES rebooting even if configured as a server. When I ran a DOS box, I had no problem whatsoever rebooting with a game boot-disk as games back then were able to optimise the use of hardware... kinda like Linux does :P

I still don't see the NEED for a LiveLinux CD with just Irrlicht (or an Irrlicht interface, gack!). At the game-dev conference however, having a LiveLinux CD with a development environment and a distribution of all the Windows+Linux open-source engines out there would be cool though...

Actually it boots in less than half a minute and that is without optimizations or USB-stick. I read that someone managed to boot it in 9 seconds! (Prolly from stick)

Ok, Live-CD now has ndivia drivers, gnu-utils and gcc. I try to add DevCpp now; and then, hehe, guess what? Yeah, Irrlicht. I will try to run Lightmapmaker under Wine, if it works i will add that too (License?). Runtime CD is nice, but a developper CD, hmmm. Lemme see....

Its getting fat. I hope i can stay under 200 MB. Hey, thats fun.

DevCpp was a bad idea. Used VIDE instead. Runs but i need to evaluate it. Its cross-plattform
and under Windows it even has Borland 5.5 support ( for ETCaptor  What about a Linux version of Visual Editor? )

Specs are here: http://www.objectcentral.com/vide.htm

I think i will drop LMM in favor of FSRAD, as its guaranteed to work under Wine. I know some good sou on this foruml has already developped a basic tool for dynamic light positioning (just can't find it now) that should be extendable to support FSRAD for lightmapping. I'd appreciate some help on this one.
