How do you feel about working on a console that's still being outsold by its own previous version? :P

Damned happy ;) hehe

Well it goes to show how strong the PS2 still is and have you seen the sales figures for the new PSP in Japan? Ruddy outstanding!

The PS3 is dragging its feet at the moment but there are a tonne of excellent looking new games coming out on it over the next few months and with rumours of a price drop and new SKU shortly the sales figures could seriously increase! There's suggestions that the rumoured 40GB PS3 could be on sale for around £300 and the 60GB could drop to £360. Those prices get rather tempting i feel.

Obviously i've stressed there that this is just rumour that i've read on the web and the official Sony line is still 'no comment' and i actually don't have any inside information on these prices or anything.

Heh, I think the fact that it's showing up in shipping inventory systems is a pretty good sign that a 40GB is on its way.

Whee! It's great that we'll 'only' get stiffed a full 50% on the equivelant dollar price!

You've got some way to go to catch up with the XBox 360's game-purchase ratio though. It seems to have the highest ratio of games-purchases-to-consoles. One way of looking at that is that Xbots are more serious than Unbewiivers. Another way is that Unbewiivers actually like playing the games they're already got. The filthy commies.

Are you talking about backwards compatability there? PS3 BC is massively superior to Xbox BC...

There are fairly few decent games for PS3 at the moment but there are loads on the horizon to knock socks off so hopefully in the coming months things will pick up!

Incidentally here's the official Sony press release: http://www.scee.presscentre.com/Content ... wsAreaID=2

God only knows how they're gonna manage cutting backwards compatability from the 40GB model seeing as it's part of the system software :lol:

Hi JP,

So you are working for Sony too? I used to work for SCEE, in team Soho, but I asked for a tranfer to SCEA.

Let's get in touch over PM, and let you try the Bullet SPU version, it comes with full source obviously. It has been developed in collaboration with several game companies.

Thanks,
Erwin

Well that price drop has already came in America.

The 60 GB PS3 cost $499 which in comparison to the Xbox 360 "Elite" it is only greater in price by $40 as the Xbox 360 "Elite" in America costs $459.

And I do believe there are some pretty good games currently in development for the PS3

Square Enix is releasing a slew of RPGs, Haze, Killzone 2, Unreal Tournament 3(one year delay for 360ers, and no support for mod maps). There are plenty of other ones coming out too.

Oh yeah and did I mention, Half-Life 2 is coming to PS3

Ha! I forgot HL2 was coming to PS3! That means i can buy it for that and play it in the office instead of trying to find time to play it at home on PC without pissing off the missus! Score! :lol:

UT3 i think will come out on all formats next year... It's been delayed for PS3, was meant to come out before xmas but now it's pushed back to the start of 08 and i think the exclusivity deal was just for until after xmas so that may completely disappear or be changed to make it come out on xbox a few months later in 08, i dont reckon they can hold it off for an entire year!

And don't forget Metal Gear Solid 4 which is looking like a huge killer app for PS3 and also LittleBigPlanet should be a lot of fun! Assassin's Creed is also popping along soon which looks to be pretty big.

Anyway, maybe we've hi-jacked this thread enough now? :lol:

Maybe a mod could split it off into a seperate thread so we can continue the discussion without clobbering dejai's physics search anymore!

Microsoft vs Sony = Microsoft wins, it has more money more power, and some very good lawyers :D

Sony was good but even though it is better or at very least equal to in standard the amount of marketing with the xbox has really put pressure on the market for the ps3.

3 to 5% of all Xbox 360s will not work out of the pack lol and yet they still beat ps3

Hmm, another price drop for the PS3 in America.

60GB = $399
80GB = $499

which means, currently, the 60GB PS3 costs less than the 360 Elite, and supports a wider array of features.

Great! Looks like Sony had learned something.

Aside from blue ray, which I assume is not available on the economy version, what features does PS3 has that Xbox360 does not?

First off the keyword was elite. Second off I have never even heard of the economy version, and third off you can find the specs for yourself because I am not going to start a PS3 360 flame war.

bah... the "ps3 getting cheaper and cheaper" was planned from the beginning so ppl would say:
cool! it's worth so much yet it's getting so cheap! let's buy fast.
plain ol' marketing
