Thanks Cmoibenlepro!

It's good news to hear this level is running better (even in full screen at 800x600 32 bits) than the other one. It's definitely OpenGL. It's pretty fast. It's really a shame that the nice texture blending effects and shadows in Irrlicht work better with DX. But as performance's concern, OpenGL gives me better results. I'll try to add an fps counter, OpenGL always says it's at 60fps all the time but I read it has to do with having Vsync on. I have to switch it off in my card and check the fps.

Another thing is that the dll included has the smooth cam modification, which also helps a lot.

@Darkwhoppy: sorry to hear that, but you must start considering an upgrade specially with all these new games (doom3, HL2, stalker, etc) coming out soon. Also as a developer, so that you can try out the technologies you implement. I could upload a windowed version at 16 bits of the exe for you. Alright?

cheers!!!

I know you're young. It's nice to see you got the initiative to work to get your own stuff and not lean on your mom so much. Perhaps she's worried that your job will affect your studies or something. Dunno. Bear with her. Or show her that she can trust you if you get a job. Besides, you want the $$$ to get a better computer, right? So you're getting better tools to work with. Oh! that's another thing she might be thinking, all you want is to get a new toy to play with.

sometimes parents get over worried about us. As I said, just prove her what you want your things for.

I'm getting too deep....sorry. Hope the new exe helps

My mom doesn't care about my studies... she still thinks I need to be put in special ed. I use to have a job, before I turned 15... worked at a newspaper company. I was their webmaster... until I got fired. (momz wouldn't take me to work one morning. ) But anyway, i'll try the windowed version later when i'm done messin with my little project here. =P

Here's an in-game screenshot. When the player explodes... (the hulls shields reaches zero) You can find some info on my website.

looks kewl!

I see you've already played a lot with guis with buttons and stuff. Can you give a hand with that? I dropped by your site but noticed your downloads are down. If you got any sources on how to create a basic interface with buttons for loading a basic level....would be cool.

am I asking for too much?

ran very nicely, a few small things...

Post by buhatkj »

the demo ran very nicely for me, and had great image quality. i did however notice a few very small inconsistancies...

1-the water would show through the ground a bit around the edges of the pool, like the water surface was a little too big for the pool volume and was overlapping.

2-the steam vents around the pool have a solid metal plate mesh beneath them, i would think it would be slotted or perforated for the steam to escape...

3-a few of the lightmaps don't seem to make sense with the position of the lights they are near, this could just be my own flawed sense of perspective tho...

overall, hella nice start dude.

thanks buhatkj

those tips r very good for me. I will make them part of my learning process and take them into account for the next project I begin. About crazy lightmaps around, if you mean the 2 corners after the final stairs It's because (if you noticed) I've been making my map grow in that direction. I first started it with the spawn room (learning the basics), then I added the first set of stairs, and then the square (when I learned about skyboxes, models, particles, fx, etc), and finally the last part I added was the final corridor, so hopefully, those 2 loose lightmaps will have a corresponding object and I will keep on growing my test level in that direction.

thnx for the support and comments!!!!
