Try upgrading to msvc version 8 (or better 9). These are otherwise known as msvc 2005 and 2008. Using an older compiler, especially with Visual Studio, is asking for lots of obscure problems.

MSVC 6 was released before ISO/IEC 14882:1998, and isn't a C++ compiler in any meaningful sense. As a bonus, it ships with a broken STL implementation. It's labeled as a hammer, looks like a hammer, but is made of glass. Explosive glass.

Thanx everyone ,this was the first problem i ever had with msvc++ 6 that i just couldnt get a lid on . i will surely follow your advice .bout high time i upgraded
