fairy + lights + awesome = qualify 8)
quite challenging, though!

For the "attitude", getting a right posture is essential. We could use the same fearie, put some armor on her, a sword, a really "badass" posture and a proper expression would do nice.

I agree but I don't think we should use the exact same model. It is not very "next gen". We could keep the same general design and add armor, a sword, right posture, and proper expression, but the graphics do need an improvement.

I like the idea of a contents but I wouldn't put constraints about what it has to be. I would just run it and see what is submitted and let the community vote.

+100

to drop an extra idea that might match with original name-concept, in the line of guild wars, linneage, oblivion models, a sort of valkyrie, even if with magic powers, surrounded by some magic (ie, like knights of extremely high level, power and wisdom... Think of Tolkiens elfs-humans....), rich armor, etc... Challenging too, and oportunity for next gen features if wished.

edit: But no, haven't go the time.... :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
Finally making games again!

I'm not sure, but I think that the "Irr" part in the Irrlicht is derivated from German word "Irre", which stands for crazy guy :)

So you shouldn't forget that part either, and make a light-lit, crazy-minded fairy :D

I go along with you that "Irr" derives from "Irre". But to my mind it makes more sense to translate it with confusing or irritating, 'cause that is what those ghost-lights are.

I don't know if I'm right, but maybe someone has an idea how to visualize the "Irr" part.

Well, i learned the word just a few weeks ago, and i knew it only in the sense of crazy :)

Dunno, maybe try a background like this?

An immense billboard of a glowing ghost ball. There, you got your mascot :D .
Seriously now, we could use a character that has some glowing shaders (tron-like) or give him/her/it some will-o-wisp familiars...

I think we got enough artists on forum. Also, 3D Artist from outside community would be a cheat (especially if he will got paid).
Other communities will laugh at us, that we cannot make our own mascot without help from outside.

All a "mascot" is, is a characteristic 2D symbol and there should be no need for 3D artists at all

I'm not sure that having an "open" contest would be a good idea, not unless we had lots of artists who were willing to enter.
I doubt we would have many entries if a competition just sprang up one day, but who knows

I found some more interesting "fairy" images online that could be used as inspiration:

It doesn't have to be a "fairy" at all though

any requirement for this? max number of poly, whether transparent texture is allowed, etc.
