maybe you could make a tutorial page with downloads, and charge a one-time registration fee(5$us?) and still have the possibility to donate if the 'customers' keep coming back regularly...
this is an actual business tho, you'd need to update with new tutorials and such regularly.

i think some ppl would be interested, but i dont think i'd ever register myself... i need the 5$ for food ;)
if you're looking for me, start looking on irc, i'm probably there.

Poor guy. For the most part this is an open source community. He asks where he can find some sources. Several replies are posted, but only a couple people actually help. BTW the links page is mostly broken (last time I checked anyway) because of the collapse of eve-corp and irrforge. For a very unfinished FPS source see the link at the bottom of my signature. Source released under gpl.
You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.

I'll release my basic source (game structure, here and there some more detailed stuff) soon. I still need to read a few chapters of Thinking in C++ about Inheriting and stuff :P. I'll post it in Project Announcements when it's done.

ok i updated my signature and a link to my rts sources.

remember iam currently porting some basic script ideas from A6 engine to 3Dgs, so its nothing special nor interessting, but you may find it useful some way :) iam currently working on the models with blender and not so much coding, so there isnt so much progress so far.

edit: oh and i forgot to say that the GUI is causing a ~20 fps slowdown, at least for me, and i dont know why. so you may use it without it... if you have any questions, contact me per msn or icq :)

Okay, though I am new to irrlicht I am not new to programming or open source developments and I have an interesting story to tell:

Before MMORPH's were a dime-a-dozen I wanted to look into making one, so I went around and scouted out the various graphic's engines. I eventually found Crystal Space and a project people were working on....so, wanting to try the project I downloaded it.

The MMORPH had potential (*sigh*) and I found a few bugs that needed fixing in the networking protocols they used. I got hired on as their 'Network programmer' until I decided to leave the project from differing opinions.

The point? If you give your source out you may end up getting a surprise like the owner in regards to me. I downloaded it just to try and winded up adding options, code and bug-fixes.

This project (the engine and games made via the engine) need people to be able to look at the source to gain a hint on the direction they need to go, and possibly to give back some input regarding the project.

Now, after saying that, I will agree that there are people who would rather cut-and-paste a project together, or at least parts of a program. Let them, they will (A) become frustrated and quit the project altogether; (B) ask so many questions that their code will change from the origional/hybred to something new and useable or (c) scrap the copy-paste code and restart.

Anyone who went to school for programming knows that copy-paste code really, really, REALLY sucks.

My first 2 cents :)
Umm, don't look at me that way. I'M not the dead one here.

Some of my code is out there, other stuff isn't.

And there are copy-paste programmers out there that get ahead...

The guy that yanked my stuff, which all he has to do is say that he's using my stuff to comply with my license, makes money hand over fist in donations.

I've never seen a penny in donations.
Crud, how do I do this again?
