I would love to use Blender as a map editor. But, this exporting to .x confuses me, to be used as a map editor. Will the .x format keep track of which textures are put where? And, what about the map lighting?

Well, .x won't be your only option soon, as I'll be releasing my OCT exporter for Blender and OCT loader for Irrlicht. You can read some more about it in this other thread (link).

OCT doesn't do animation or anything, but for levels, it should work fine. OCTs store lights, and I have a function for loading the lights from them into Irrlicht. And OCT maps can be pretty easily lightmapped with FSRad. There's more about all of this in that other thread.

As far as .x... yes, you can output texturemapped .x files from Blender complete with the texture file information. Earlier today I wrote a quick little howto on Texture mapping for Irrlicht in Blender (link) to get people started if they don't know how.

Very nice.
That would be an extremely handy tool. I'm more familar with Blender than I am with the modeling programs. I've used Radiant before, but I am trying to avoid the license aspect of that. So, Blender's my friend.

Thanks for the info.
