Annyone?
Possible to use alpha color?
Trails? (set rotation of the sprites to that of the particle 2D direction)

Yes i did. However i would want to understand what im doing. With those last two questions i would be good to go. But those are maybe not possible with irrlicht as it is? (use alpha and trails/rotating)

Well you should take a look at my particle system. It was implemented in irrlicht and answers all your questions.
