Let me guess, you liked Spectres the most ;) ?

Also I'm very thankful to you, because Guice is a tool which I use for GUI creations, positioning etc. With Guice I can make everything in a very short time !

I think that you are right. But at this moment project doesn't have any website and any type of advertisment except of this forum.

I'm doing this project for me. And it is made for FUN only. It is amateur, unofficial, non-comerrcial and free. It is NOT a project needed for 'homework', studies, competition etc.

Also I think I'll host it on megaupload or some sort of hosting like this (it is good , because anonymous a bit) - and it shouldn't affect any copyrights and laws.

I could change the name, but for example -> The Middle-Earth is a copyrighted mark of Tolkien Enterprises, and I remember when they have stopped the creation of free Morrowind Middle-earth mod, so it doesn't look too nice ...

Something new about the project -> race description:

Race: Spectre (also known as Nazguls, Ringwraiths, Wraiths, Undead, Dark Creatures)

Class: Warlock

Faction: Abyss Union

Capitol: Minas Morgul

Characteristics: They are magic gladiators of darkness. They have very high Strength and very high Intelligence. Fearless. They are Undead, so fire, ice, poison doesn't affect them. They are always equipped with their Robes of Abyss, so you can't see their armor in full view (you will be able to see helmets only).
Their onground mount is Mordor Horse (also known as Dark Horse), and flying mount is Wyvern.

Powerfull skills: Scream of Fear, Hour of Power

Stats: Unknown for now.

Description: Nazguls, creatures, which were once a proud members of Saurons Hordes, now are beign resurrected by Morgoth, the darkest from Valars - gods of Middle-earth. They have came from deeps of Abyss where all the darkness is.

Spectres love darkness. Darkness is not only their home. It is their nature. They don't have any warmth in their hearts. Some experienced travelers said that Nazguls are romantics. Betrayed by the rings, love and positive, warm feelings, they wanted to change the world to a better place, become powerful, have power to decide about feelings and people's dreams.

They do not feel humans feelings. They have known new levels of metaphysics due to their fall into darkness. Spectres sometimes are netrual, but almost in all cases they would attack other people in any circumstances. They have changed from normal people/kings/travelers into creatures which feel: rage, revenge, hate.

The next characteristic is that Spectres are very lonely. They do not have any friends. They have allies, yes, but even with other spectres their relationships are very cold. They even don't like to have friends. We can assume that their best friend is darkness.

The most important thing is that Nazguls are proud about 'what/who' they are. They don't want to change anymore. This is very complicated. Because they really don't care about the future. They live timeless.

This was a short desciption of Spectres, to better know this race. It should help you choose if you like to play them.

And now, time for a small update ;), just a little one :P :

*** Update: Version 0.27 ***

- Added a Basic Joint Equipping system - it is not controlled by User Interface yet, but it will be. At the moment you are avaible to equip few random weapons by pressing 1 & 2 keys. Most weapons will require some positioning - which depends of selected race. Also that feature means there will be armors avaible. :D

- Changed Dwarf's and Spectre's animation loops to correct ones. But there is a still moveForward() animation bug when dismounted and mounted ground mount.

- Bugfix: There was a terrible conflict with player's physics. Bouding box affected badly on CollisionResponseAnimator. Now everyting works properly.
Thanks to this bugfix Strafes work properly. (there were some minor bugs with strafes in earlier versions)

That is enough for today.

Here is also work-plan, what is going to be done next:

- Finish up rest of races
- Finish up Equipment & Inventory System
- Make few items
- Make Enemies and set spots (there are some already)
- Make locations and world objects (cities, mountains, rivers, forests etc.)
- Add some graphical effects: lighmaps etc.
- Make NPC's for each faction properly defined and write a basic Quest System
- Make Weather System
- Make about 1500 weareable items and Looting system
- Check everything if it works as it should
- After all above it will be -> DONE!

About the first release: I will repeat again : don't expect anything revolutionary etc. I don't have development team with 20 person involved ;). It is very important when you will play the first release. Just give this game a chance ;)

First release will be downloadable on: 24. 12. 2005 - Christmas Eve.

I have thought about sources. They should be avaible at the end of the project, when it will have version -> 1.00, but I'm not sure about this because I will release many patches after final version.

Patches = new features, bug fixes, new monsters and items etc.

Answer 1: LAN support is not yet avaible. There are some plans to add Client - Server support, but in the future we will see if it's possible to make it. What is more, game is designed for single player.

2) Will there be a quest editor? (That would also be sweet)

Answer 2: Unfortunately - Not - at the moment.
Quest editing will be avaible only to Development Team. But this game is an amateur project, so I don't think I will be able to make any specific quest editor separated from main game sources even for development team.
So as you can see it doesn't look so lovely as it could.
I will think about possibility of modifying the project even with sources.
If I find any point in releasing LOTR Development Kit with hardcoded sources I will write about it. :D

3) Will you have a website?

Answer 3: Yes, in the future there will be a website, after finishing the project.
It depends also with game's title. If it is going to stay LOTR game probably won't have any website avaible due to law & rights problems.

I'm looking for friends, who like logistics and statistics.To help me making QUESTS and ITEMS.

- are interested
- have experience with RPG games
- love Tolkien
- most important: Watched Peter Jackson's LOTR Trilogy few times! (game will contain book motives also)
- HAVE a good imagination that it is very amateur, free , simple project

You are welcome. Here are points where I need help:

HELP LIST:
- Quest making
- Item making (including Weapons, Armors, Scrolls, Treasures, Jewelery, Food & Drink, 'hundreds of little things like in WoW')
- Skills/Spells for Elf(Hunter), Hobbit (Rogue), Orc (Warrior), Haradrim (Dark Palladin)

PLEASE HELP !! I really need you !

It is up to you what ideas would you like to share here.

I. Here are weapon examples:

This is ITEM WEAPON EXAMPLE:

Weapon name: ................
Weapon class: [sword/knife/spear/axe/mace/bow/staff]
Weapon type: [normal/magic/unique/elitecraft/legendary/ancient/valar's craft]
Weapons damage: [around normal: 1 ~90 / around magic: 60 ~120 / around unique: 90~120 / around elitecraft: 120 ~170 / around legendary: 160 ~ 210 / around ancient: 210 ~ 270 / around valar's craft: 270 ~ 700]
Weapon's characteristics: ........... (your short description)
Weapon's abilities if 'magic type' and higher types: ...........

Filled up example:

Weapon name: Little Black Knife
Weapon class: knife
Weapon type: normal
Weapons damage: 9-17
Weapon's characteristics: Elegant little knife.
Weapon's abilities if 'magic type' and higher types: none avaible

And that's how it should look. If you want to 'write' some weapons just write and I should add them to my project. (hmm such stupid things like : BFG 9000 with 300 000 000 dmg will be ignored of course, just lets do this game role playing in Tolkien's universe)

II. Here is item making example:

Item's name: ................
Item's effect: ................ (for example adds +40 health or teleports you there, or casts spell (scroll) or is a jewelery and when taken with you gives +5 Intelligence etc.
Item's Icon: [how should it look like? - description]

As you can see it is easy to fill it up. Just make items that you like. They can be scrolls/food and drinks/ books (even for read - short stories or advices)/ orbs and jewelery/ some stuff like seashells and such minor things)

There can be items just for sell which does nothing.
Oh ! Also some herbs/flowers are very very welcome !

III. Here is quest example:

For which race:................
Quest name:..................
Who will give: [All heroes as NPC will be avaible. For example Witchking for Spectres. For human Gandalf The White or Aragorn King of Gondor etc.]

(PS game takes place back in middle earth after 3-rd part of LOTR, evil Valar Morgoth wants to gain power over all creatures, there are new wars and a lot of events so all characters are back in Middle-earth)

Quest description: ................
Quest goal: ...................
Quest reward: .................. (in items/gold)

(PS Gold is just gold. There is no bronze, silver, gold like in wow atm. so just type some gold ammount)

- Major BUGFIX: finally ! Very ugly animation 'stepping when forward keypressed' bug fixed. Now you can have nice feeling of walking/traveling. :D (Special thanks for Electron for my amateur & stupid questions!)

- .AVI file support, there is now intro avaible before entering main menu

I’m the guest from above and I'm shocked by that blizzard gamer \ Tolkien reader stereotype, but I just happen to have read The LOTR and The Silmarillion.

I also have a Middle-Earth dictionary (yes a dictionary) it will be great help for items and quests creation

Can you give an example of how many hit points a player \ enemy would have? Can you give an example of how much gold a person will have?

Things like that would be helpful on the integers of items and quest rewards.
Where do players start would be helpful to know where to stick basic quests (like having them talk to someone)

I might be able to help with some of the art for the weapons. I am pretty good with milkshape. I can make people too but texturing can be kind of hard in milkshape. Just let me know any way I can help if you want me to.

Who will give: Gandalf

I figure a quest based on another of tolkien's books would be amazing..

Quest description:Quest is given by Gandalf, you have to find out where the old Crown of morgoth is, maybe by asking around towns, npc's, etc, and remove a Silmaril from it, and return it to Gandalf..



Quest goal: Return a silmaril to gandalf
Quest reward: Dwarven mithril shirt

Another:
For which race: Hobbit
Quest name: The Red Book of Westmarch
Who will give: Samwise Gamgee



Quest description:The Book in which the Tale is told has been stolen by the Witchking, and hidden in Mirkwood.You have to find it, and bring it back to it's caretaker.



Quest goal: The red book of westmarch.
Quest reward: 2500 gold + a good item
