We're just putting the finishing touches on the demo now. I've still got a couple camera options to finish up and the Tutorial.

Krabbo is just finishing up Teella's new weapon! :D Which is looking mightly nice.

I figured I'd take a moment to post the minimum specs and recommended.

Minimum Specs:
800Mhz CPU
1G of RAM
64M Video Card

At 1024x768 32bit mode, and 128meg textures we get about 50 - 60FPS
@ 256 meg textures we get about 24 - 30 FPS

Recommended:
1Ghz CPU
1G RAM
128M Video Card

We've tested this on a wide range of machines, ranging from my old Power PC 800Mhz 64 meg card to Quad Core 256Meg Cards. :D

Looks fantastic, but the object now is to get some more bling going to impress the big consoles. Textures and Models need to be overhauled. I did not read the whole thread but if you plan to use irrlicht as the renderer gl getting that to run on the ps3 and others
You can use my Wii Irrlicht port if you like (Still in Pre-Alpha) so I will tell you when It is ready to be used if interested.

http://sf.net/projects/wiirrlicht/

It is free but if you get this to work out some money is always great :)

The game industry seems to think this is a standard and has dug in hard on this.. For what reason? I don't know.
Lock-in. Once you've ground for a while, there's a sense that you're walking away from an investment if you quit.

That said, it only makes sense for games with a subscription (or for Progress Quest).

Do you have a revenue model in mind for Krabbits?

Yes. Affordable and probably in-line with Xbox & PSN, and not necessarily subscription based (like Guildwars is expansion, not subscription based). We may entertain the in-game item sales model. Just a thought.

We decided to take a little longer to finish polishing stuff before release. We're coming up soon. We're looking to enter the PopVox awards, which means launching before Apirl 30th :P so sometime before then. We're starting initial testing soon. Any one interested in testing feel free to send me an email

info at krabbit.com Subject: Alpha test

How does releasing the PC version for free sound, with premium content for sale for modest price in future?

And thus changing the name from Krabbit System Wars to something like 'Battle Krabbits Online'? :)

Thoughts anyone?

Needs "science ninja squad" in there somewhere, surely?

I think 'free' is pretty much the most you can expect to charge now, unless you have a marketing budget big enough to buy some fawning reviews.

Do you see the premium content as being more visual pimping, or actual functional enhancements?

Hmmm... Ninja Krabbits... Battle Ninja Krabbits Online... Extreme Ninja Battle Krabbits Online...

Absolutely functional. And pretty. :)

Couple thoughts... Since we're building KrabbitWorld one piece at a time, which is alot of work for the two of us :P Each title we release is a piece of KrabbitWorld, so we could always use KrabbitWorld in the title.

In the history of KrabbitWorld there is the KaRa, the map of existence. Existence consists of 7 realms. To know more listen to the intro mp3 on http://shadow.krabbit.com/varmint/ .. So based on those two things came up with

KrabbitWorld: Realm Warriors
KrabbitWorld: Battle Angels

This first game is about, the first two characters. Kria and Teella. As well you must learn to bond with your symbiotic weapon.

As we release new characters.. new adventures and story content will be added. As you play the game, you can play from different characters perspectives.

Ideas, suggestions welcome :)

Just listened to the intro, you should also include ka tet Crossing of two paths. The crossing of fate or destiny of two life forms, the act of sharing one destiny. I stole that from Dark Tower novels :P somewhere in your glossary.

Looks really great so far.

That'll be a big challenge to balance. You'll need to make the enhancements compelling enough that they'll be purchased, but not so effective that being constantly owned will disenchant freeloaders before they become paying players.

Have you considered zoning the game world to provide a noob area where players can fight each other without being ganked by elites?

Of course, then you've got the problem of keeping the elite areas populated so that paying players actually get to the enjoy the benefits of their purchases.

That's why I was (edging towards) suggesting that premium content could just be different to free content, not necessarily markedly superior in a functional sense.

The project is a challenge, given it's scope and limited resources.

This game is not typical mmo style, which I assume you are referring to. There is no grind, the gameplay is relative. Players of any level can have rewarding play with players of any other level. The idea is that if you don't want to spend the time playing, waiting for drops etc, you can purchase items/spells, katas, buffs, characters, levels etc. at a very minimal cost.

The gameplay is designed to make it fun for everyone, not just super high levels or the affluent.
