particle based fire effect wrapping the flames around a mesh
just attach particles of fire (first you must do a standard fire particle effect) to the bones of your animated mesh or to some vertices of your mesh. Than you can add a fire-glowing shader to make the mesh look burning also where there aren't particles spotting
