I mostly learned my C++ basics from online tutorials, it was only when I started university that I actually picked up some books about it because I needed to know all the little details
I'm not saying that you should follow this route, but the internet does provide an enormous amount of resources on the subject, so a book isn't completely necessary to actually learn it, but it might come in handy if you want to dig deeper with certain subjects or if you want to use it as a reference (if it's a good book of course)
