2D Alpha Channel

Is there any way to draw 2D images in Irrlicht with smooth edges. makeColorKeyTextures seems to give me very bad edges. I've looked around and only saw stuff like setMaterialType to ADD_COLOR something something. But that's for drawing 3D geometry only.
I'd like to draw a 2D Image for a mouse cursor.
