Thinking about an advanced Irrlicht forum...

Post by SiriusCG »

I've been thinking about starting another Irrlicht-based discussion forum where you won't read things like this:
But am so noob so i can't figure it out.
In other words, NO CLUELESS NOOBS! Strictly advanced users or noobs who can post intelligently. (READ: "Hi I'm having problems with some code and here's a snippet of what I'm working on"... kind of posts.

Anyone interested? I don't mean to detract from this original forum but frankly the Irrlicht forums are overrun with wanna-be noob game coders who don't know an int from a float.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

BTW, I have been around this forum for some time but had to start another user account when my original quit working. Couldn't authenticate.

Well its easy to make a new forum but its harder to make ppl migrate there. And ppl will allways check this one also beeing the official. It has been many disscution about that n00b stuff...but you are free to do what you want. Just do it and inform us and after that you'll know if that was a good idea.

Well first off I would like to say, Yes its a good Idea. But at the same time itsa very bad idea. Let me start by saying its nice to want to have a Noob free forum. However in order to be better at irrlicht you have to learn from expert users. You were once a noob yourself.

The other reason this is a bad idea is that fact that most people don't like to browes more then one forum. So if there is 2 irrlicht forums then the one that is the newest is going to suffer a harsh death. Your setting your self up for the a bad forum death.

If ppl respected the titles of the individual forums there wouldn't be a problem. There already is an Advanced Help forum
You do a lot of programming? Really? I try to get some in, but the debugging keeps me pretty busy.

Well, that's the rub as they say. They don''t. Same repetitve posts (that are explained in the FAQs), same answers ("It's in the FAQs".)... posting in the wrong sub-forum, etc...

I'll "back burner" my idea for a while...

Irrlicht is growing, The community is getting bigger. I'm sure in a year or two this idea will sound 5 times better then it is now. Just give it some time.
