Yep. I'd suggest to install a real working patch against that as I already stated here:

NO SPAM ;)

concerning your somewhat pointed comment about changing to a different forum software Xaron....

youre going to get spam registrations with any forum software (i see it all the time on all of them). you can do some things to make it harder for the automatic bots, but there are still people that actually do it live. the only thing you can do is just keep on top of things, and you have to do this with any type of forum

phpbb2 is just fine... phpbb3 will be far superior

The weak point is the Captcha. If the admins here would install a better captcha there would be much less spambots. Ok, I don't like phpBB because of its "programming" style... And because it's very popular and free it's (of course) the main target for spammers and crackers. I don't see any spambots in vBulletin forums. ;)

Thanks for reporting the spam guys, and for your understanding.
Right now switching to another board software would mean starting from scratch and there's not too much time and there's already quite a lot of valuable info in these forums. Fortunately we got several hands helping out deleting the spam and the users who just want to ruin the Irlicht party.

Well, there are converters for wBB and vB, but ok, I can understand. ;)

But please just install this small Captcha-Mod and there will be no Bots anymore. :)

I've noticed the majority of these spam posts end up in the Offtopic forum. Would it maybe help to rename the forum? Or would that just cause the spammers to pick more random locations/posts throughout the forum?

We should have a vote on what to rename the Offtopic forum too!!

I think they need to start handing out IP bans

Or better yet would be to make a special user group for the spammers and make their posts invisible to everyone except those in the spammer group. This way they won’t know their posts are blocked because they will still see them but the rest of us wont see them.
