Project name:

Kingdom of the Elements

Company name:

Clockwork Gaming Studios (unregistered atm)

Brief description:

Kindom of the Elements is an online MMORPG in early development, we have been working on it for about a month now and are making good progress.
We have several fully modelled, fully textured, fully animated/rigged characters.

We are currently using the irrlitch 3d graphics engine for the testing and production of a game demo which should be ready within a few months time.
we are also currently working on an independant game engine.
we already have a 100% complete camera system, 100% complete character movement trajectory system with terrain collision response.
25% complete user interface system, and a 25% complete quest system (implementation of the quest system, not the quest content)

Brief story outline:

The main idea of the game is a fantasy MMORPG influneced by many mmorpgs there including Everquest, WoW, DAOC, Anarchy Online ( the idea of introducing sci-fi elements havent been ruled out).

The main plot of the game is a war between elemental races. For instance, wind elves are going to be a playable race (see concept skeches and images) who are a good race. At war against the fire elemental Orges, an evil race. Everything in the world will revolve around these elements, including environments, quests and equipment.

Target aim:
The aim is to eventually create a working MMORPG and then release it online, if and when it is high enough quality to start charging for a subscription that would be a huge goal.

Compensation:
When the game eventually generates revenue the team memebrs will all recieve a percentage of the profit earned from the game until we generate enough revenue to be able to offer a competitive salary.

In early development the game wont generate renvenue, so im looking for people who want to help start a project and get experience in game devlopment and problem solving. The hope is to create a friendly, fair, working team who work together and encourage each other to produce their best work possible =).

Working on this game will also be great experience and i would be glad to be a reference for any other project if you choose to leave this project.

Technology:
Target system: PC
Programming language: C++ ( using APIs such as direct 3d, openGL and DirectSound )
Artist Tools: photoshop, 3ds max, any others
Sound tools: any

Team Structure/Talent needed:

We are very much in need of artists, if you are interested email me with a small portfolio, (just an image or two).

we need:

Concept artists - using any medium.

3d modellers - We are very much in need of talented 3d modellers.
Must be able to use 3dsmax to create low poly models and be able to paint their own textures and layout and apply them
to a given character model. also experience with bump, specular and normal maps a bonus but not necessary because this can be learned fairly easily.

3d animators - must know how to rig and animate 3d characters in 3ds max either using a biped or a custom bone structure.

sprite/ui/logo artists - need 2d cg artists for everything from the load screens to the user interface to concept work. must be proficent in photoshop.

Team Structure:

At the moment we are a 7 person team, 3 artists (one of which is myself), 3 programmers and a composer.

About Myself:

I have had experience in all aspects of game development before, including programming in c++ and in openGL.
Art in 3dsmax, maya, photoshop, illustrator, combustion, flipbook, aftereffects, preimier, flash, and various sprite creation software. (art is my main area of expertise)
Ive had experience mixing musical tracks digitially and the creation of sound effects for use in short film.
Ive lead a large team before and look forward to working with team members in game design.

I've studied fine art and animation in a post secondary environment, in toronto, canada.

Impressive screenshots :)

I think you're missing several important pieces of info-
1) how many players at once do you propose?
2) has your coding talent successfully programmed a (m)multiplayer before?
3) do you have funds to pay for a collection of dedicated servers, or are you also seeking investors?

Looks very nice.

Too bad it's again a mmorpg with 'fantasy' like world.

I mean it's nice to see such thing, and see someones work (so far it looks pro man), but well I guess your aim is to make it for somehow 'yourself satisfaction' ?

Because If you want to be similiar to WoW/Anarchy/Lineage/KnightO etc. stuff it isn't going to evolve that much.

(that above is just a little though of mine, don't get it as ofense or something)

I think world looks good, and a small question:

You have elements - hmm I wonder, because everywhere there is a fire/water(ice)/earth/wind; and you have lightning except wind :P I guess lightning includes wind stuff ?

we are planning on having several hundred to a few tousand players on each sever compariable to current commerical mmorpgs. of course we are going to have to work hard on our networking code to make this a reality. we currently have funds to pay for one dedicted sevrer, but the plan is that if the game indeed becomes popular enough to require additional servers, that will be the point in time where we start charging fees to play the game, and we will then use that revenue to finance additional servers.

in response to dawasw:

yes, i know fantasy mmorpgs are very over done. but theres a reason for this, people like fantasy mmorpgs, and they have been generally more successful then mmorpgs of other genres.

it comes down to supply and depand. people like fantasy mmorpgs and so alot of them are made.

I agree that orginality is important, i know a fantasy mmorpg isnt an original genre, but the orignality will be in the game implementation itself. We arent planning on this game being another clone of WoW or EQ, and we have alot of ideas of how to make it different.

in answer to the question about the elements, there will probally be more then 4 elements, just only 4 elemental planes atm on the world map.

WOW!! how many poly's is that elf?? i think to much for my pc, even Halflife2 hasn't so much poly's in 1 character...
BUt looks great  you have to have a good finicial idea, because server are exspensief and you have to get more then 2 the time of payers to become populair, see runescape or silkroad.

blade_gamer, i think that if u want to be mo original than an another MMORP, the first point is to find a very good history and backgroung.

By the way, i will take a sample. You have 4 territory in this time. Just have a look on their name : "plane of fire", "plane of Earth" ... So with this start i don't think that you will be "original".

By the way, why an orc is an orc ? Why the sun is the sun ??

Why not to make the revolution their ;).

For exemple, i think that people who play in MMORP want to see different univers that they know ... or make the revolution in a world they "think" to know ;)
I will illustrate my think. Again the orc. Now we will keep the orc design and now its a burdo. A burdo is a creature who live betwen 2 elements: the fire and the water. For survice, the burdo need to meat creature of the earth element.

This is a little example ;). As you see i keep the "element" as we know, because if i change that, the gamer will be definitly lose in our world (make a standard marks and construct new thing around)

the result of that could be :
- more impressive backgroud
- the designer team could have more inspiration when the need to "draw" a model
- with "marvelous" model and a super backroung players and developers are "happy"

So this is the end ;)

Have good luck in your project, i m open for discution if you want ... and sorry if my english is like " asian one", but it's not my native language ( and i m not asian :p )

see soon ;)
