IrrEdit raises Exception...

Post by NETExtremeCoder »

Hi,

i am absolutely new to 3DEngines and Game Development but i have a
strong programming background in many areas and with many
programming languages. Now i see that "Programming Games and Graphics"
is what i would call a "Master Class". Working with the IrrLicht
and Irrlicht.NET is not that difficult, even tough i am new to it, thanks
to all the great Tutorials and all the great people behind the
Irrlicht-Engine in this forum and other places. But i run into some Trouble:
I wanted to create my first "Room" with the IrrEdit but the Application
fails when i try to add any kind of "Object" like a Cube, a Spehere or
whatever. It still throws an "Unknown Software Exception" and fails. My
System does not have a hardware acceelerator card and i know that the
IrrEdit is still Alpha. So my Question: What Software can i use to Create
a "Level" that can be rendered with the IrrLicht Engine? It should
run "stable" if possible and should be "Open-Source" or for Free.
I dont want to pay a lot of money, because these are my first steps.
The Editor sould also start in "Software" Mode, like the IrrEdit does, but
unfortunately fails to run on my system...

My System
--------
(Notebook)
P4 2,8 Ghz
1GB RAM
Video:
--------
Name SiS Compatible VGA
Chip Type SiS M650 Rev 00
DAC Type Internal
Memory 64 MBytes

Windows XP SP2 an all Patches.
.Net SDK 2 and all Patches.
Latest DirectX and SDKs available.
Latest Video Driver and whole System
is Up-To-Date.

Thanks in Advance...

Beste regards...

You can create levels in any 3D editor. The best open-source 3D modeler is Blender3D. Other free (and good) software for lvl creating are: GTK-Radiant and QuArK (Q3Map Editors) (Irrlicht supports Q3 BSP format) 8)
