Hola,

Soy usuario linux ( debian/ubuntu).

___________

Hi, i'm linux user (debian/ubuntu). Recently time I learned to pack in .deb,
then it was happened to me that, why Irrlicht is not in some distro?

Among other things, it packs irrlicht, but I do not have repositorio where to upload it.

I would like to know that they think. If there is no disadvantage, I can be ordered of the packed one and be found out that one is due to make to enter some distro.

Before submitting the files to some distro you should contact the development team and provide a publically available package file for testing. This reduces the amount of support requests (and we know better about the technqiues). But yes, it ok to put it into distros.

Translation:

Code: Select all

apt-get install libirrlicht libirrlicht-dev

Thanks to welcome my suggestion, I would like to know with that I must contact (within the staff) to let know this. He would be very comfortable to install irrlicht with a simple:

apt-get install libirrlicht libirrlicht-dev
In any case, probably it cannot do nothing until March begins, but I leave the suggestion so that others (if I cannot take care of the subject while) can take care of it

Hi,

Irrlicht has already have an ITP as I know, maybe a DD will do it...

To do an official Debian package, you need sponsorship of an official Debian dev. and go through a lot of step.

Do you know does the official Ubuntu package need as many steps?

What do you mean ?
If it's about official packaging process, I don't know how it is done on Ubuntu, but I guess they are enough smart to just rebuild official Debian package with adjusted package version string.
But according to packaging doc (example: https://help.ubuntu.com/6.10/ubuntu/pac ... index.html), anyone could contribute to ubuntu package and all things are reviewed then (maybe) incorporated in official repository with enough time.

I mean that i would imagine that getting "Official Debian Package" stamp would be harder than getting "Official Ubuntu Package" status (after sending the package to be reviewed).

Anyway, I have no idea about the reviewing process so this is just speculation.
