Anyone got Max able to convert a model for me?

Post by JP »

I downloaded a .max model from turbosquid (great website for free and pay models if you've not heard of it before) but i need it to be in .3ds to be able to load it into my game so would anyone be willing to convert it for me?

That looks really useful but it doesn't support .max files :)

Can't you export it into the format you need?

For some reason the texture files are in Ninakirk\3dsmax4\Scenes\New Folder\Ninalowres\backup

So that might be why max couldn't find them?

Cheers for doing this, i'll check out what you've done and see if it's any use to me!

EDIT: Change of plan for now, could you possibly just take a screen shot of the model directly from the side like the ship in the following screenshot? If you can get it textured that is! I put the textures from the above folder in the same folder as the .3ds model you made and viewed it in quick3d (see above) and it textured it but the texture coordinates were all messed up.

What i'm doing is converting the PC game (made with Irrlicht) in the screenshot to PS3 and i was planning on using proper 3D models for the targets but i may be abandoning that idea and just stick with the '2D' models and apply some nice shaders to them to improve the quality. And obviously i need a better graphic for the ship than the one in the PC version ;)

hello jp

the problem is NOT to load the model successfully to 3ds max.
as you can see in the screen shot here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/37335806/sc ... t.jpg.html

the problem is to export the 3ds file witth propper uw mapping cords.
i try it with 3ds max 8 and now at the office with 3ds max 9.
yes and deep exploration, but the same result for the export job.

booth formats 3ds and alias obj file format tested. same poor quali :(

i don´t know if it is true, but maybe it has something to do that the model
using 2 textures ????

sorry m8.

so, whats next ?
