I use Blender. It can export into just about any format. It can also import just about any format as well.

Noooooo! You forgot Lightwave! I'm using that as much as I can because that's the program they teach in the University course I'll be doing next year :D

There's a tie between 3DSM and Blender.

again i saw blender and read the tutorials but as i think 3d studio max is easier 1000 time than blender and also very fast to finish than blender!!!

Blender is winning, woot :D

Blender is not harder, it is just different, and maybe needs more practice but it is probably better in the end, since if you practice with blender you can model using a tool that does not require an expensive commercial license...

I use blender in production level work.

I just know that is more limited than Max, but that doesn't stop me to do my stuff...yet I keep modelling with Wings...

you find several "other" packages...Should have added Wings3d, quite a number use it as a modeler...

I mean, being the question "what modeler do u use?"...Couldnt answer blender.

If the question would have been "what general 3d package do you use" , "what animation package do you use", "what rendering package do you use", "what integration package do you use"...Blender by all means...in case asked "at work"...Would have set "Max"...

But being what 'modeler' th equestion, I missed there Wings3d, Metasequoia, perhaps Mudbox. And I really think forum polls one day will reach the point they can take several options in an answer, setting a percentage of weight in the answer... :)

For some odd reason i just can't get the hang of blender. Right now i use metasequoia for modelling and fragmotion for animation. I wouldn't mind learning one of the big boys like 3ds max, maya, blender or lightwave.

Maya has a PLE, 3DS Max has GMAX, Blender is free... I don't know of a free lightwave version. Anyway you can learn almost all of the big programs off of their free versions.

Maya PLE doesn't let you export and has watermarks on your renders.
GMAX doesn't render and only exports to 1 or 2 formats.
Blender doesn't have any restrictions...
Again I don't know about Lightwave.

 tried em all, i just can't get the hang of it. I can use Maya to a degree, but i definitely won't claim I'm a master at it. Perhaps i just need to buy a few DVDs or something like that. Any you'd recommend?
