Copyright issues

Post by Homer »

Hi!

We (two man team) are developing a game in which the player can move through our home town. The game plays in the 1920's, where the town centre differed much from the todays state. Some of the buildings contain brand names ("UFA Palast" -> cinema, UFA still exists; "Sarotti" -> chocolate manufacturer, still exists). So the question is, can we run in trouble if we put these names in our game? Another question regarding in-game music: We wanted to use some newer "Comedian Harmonists"-style songs from "Max Raabe Palast Orchester", but I think this definitly impinges some copyrights. So does anybody know some free ressources for older instrumental music?
If these two questions get cleared, we offer a small demo of our project for download. I then will start a topic in the "Project Announcements" forum.

Thx in advance!

Hi,
the game idea sounds really good!! I like Max Raabe a lot, so I would love to see a game using that music. But your right there is propably a must for copyright. I guess the most important question is, if you want to sell the game. I mean propably one one will make trouble if its not commercial. In the musics case I would write an e-mail to the Max Raabe Management (or what ever) and explain your idea.

Actually, I believe that you can still get in trouble for doing this. What you ought to do (if the game is non-commercial) is go down to the places that you want to include and explain what you want to do with their respective names. They might let you, they might not. :?
