OMG I have just seen on wikipedia that PS3 sold 768,356 defects so far since they have released it. Compared to 360's 300,000. Disappointing Sony... Disapointing...

I don't know how accurate that is... I've only heard of one of my friends having a defective PS3 but have heard of many more 360s...

It's a very specific number there isn't it... compared to 360s 300k, nice and round.. that suggests it might not be entirely accurate as i think figures are normally released nicely rounded.

Plus wikipedia is freely edited by anyone, including 360 owners with a Sony grudge

Disclaimer: yes i work for sony, no i'm not biased by that, no i probably can't get you an official figure

EDIT: my boss has just pointed out (no he's no one with any special knowledge about this) that microsoft have admitted their very high failure rate but Sony have always said they have a nice low failure rate. Sure, sure, they could lie, they're not perfect but i'm willing to believe them as i've never seen/heard of one fail myself and we've had about 15 in our department and never heard of any others in the company failing.
