Starcraft II and now... Diablo III!

Post by dawasw »

For those who don't ready any news, here, check it out:

http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/

For me Diablo 2 was the best hack'n'slash game ever when it was released (and of course Diablo 1 <- a classic and it is the best too ;) )
and even after D2 was released - it remain to be the best. As far as I remember all games which were hack'n'slash and released after D2 - they just didn't make it. Diablo 2 was the best until now I guess.

The gameplay trailer which you can see - presents Barbarian Class, Witch Doctor - overall game improvements, beautiful fully 3D graphics and most important thing and addition in Diablo III - new physics system with destructible environment.

To be honest the game looks big, the trailer is long and it made my day, lol. I will definately buy this game.

Diablo2 is still nearly as addicting as it was when it came out. I've tried a few others in the meantime, but I always switched back to playing D2 after a while.

I like the new trailer for the third part. It looks just like ... Diablo. 100% recognicable - but still lots of improvements. I'm impressed that they seem to have resisted to make the camera rotatable (leaving out features is very hard - even if that improves gameplay).

The witch-doctor spells seem to be a rather similar to the old necro spells (just with an increased coolness factor - wall of zombies - omg!). I 'm curious if they kicked the necro out. And that end-fight will probably only last for less than a second with an experienced team once the game it out for a while ;-)

Both games look like they're going to have balancing issues, IMO, but when they come out I'll definitely buy both and see how they are :)

Excellent! Diablo is still an amazing game, even though it's pretty repetitive on the hacking and slashing it's so addictive! And it's the most RPG i'll ever go. It's got about 7 attributes you can level up? Perfect number. Unlike Neverwinter Nights which has about a million, all of which seem to overlap each other like crazy (intelligence, wisdom what's the difference?), my character ended up being a dribbling fool who took about 3 seconds to attack anyone....

Diablo II was pretty cool but i got stuck after a while on a really hard boss dude and just couldn't kill him, even after running through the game a second time up to that point (love the way diablo lets you do that!)

So yeah, a next-gen Diablo could be pretty cool, but then again they might go over the top and make it like all the other RPG games with a million stats to level up....

I'd imagine that they'll dumb it down rather than pimp it up. Diablo PvE was always about rewarding mindless clicking; there's not really much in the way of strategy or tactics, since all paths are carefully 'balanced' to lead to the same DPS, just with different visual effects.

Since D&D 4th Edition itself seems to have moved closer to Warcrack, I doubt that there's much room for Diablo to get more complicated.

Leveling up a character for several weeks in Diablo2 "profi" mode where you have just one live and then getting killed because you lost concentration just for those two seconds beside a lightning boss - that's imho the closest experience to death any game has to offer.

Diablo is certainly more of an action game, but it's not without tactics. Especially in PvP I've seen some incredible players. Like that level 9 barb which no-one took serious at first when he attacked a party of 7 other players with much higher levels. Until one-by-one did flee ... and he just laughed at us. Adrenalin!

And it's not just because of items. An experienced player will be more effective when running around naked than the most pimped up noob.

If there was one major weakness, then it was that there wasn't much left of a challenge for higher level players. After patch 1.10 they made hell so hard that it was nearly impossible to play for the occassional players. But good players still reached hell in a weekend. And killing all groups before Baal took a good team only some time because they had to wait for the respawning of the monsters and a few seconds waiting until the sorc teleported there in the first place. Actual fightingtime got below a second and so all the good players could do was stupidly re-playing the same fight over and over - around once every 1-2 minutes. It missed something like an open-ended challenge that just gets harder all the time.

@JP: You can just start a game in the open battle net with your local character. Call it something like "help with dia" and wait a few minutes. Usually someone joins and will kill that boss for you.

Yeah that's basically what i did one time, got my Uni housemate to join over the network and kick his ass for me... but then i couldn't continue the game... it felt pointless... i'd cheated to get ahead and i was left with a hollow feeling for it and couldn't be bothered playing on... But then without the help i couldn't beat him so couldn't enjoy the rest of the game so probably should have just played on!

I got so horribly addicted to Diablo 1 and saving before going round every single corner that i actually started trying to save game in real life... That's pretty worrying!

Better get my clicking finger in shape! lol
