What about music?

Post by CameroKid »

Where do you guys get / make music for your games? I'm sure you don't have full orchestras on hand. What software do you use? I can play several interments but I am no good at writing music. Any tips?

As I am bass player in a band (http://www.killing-cockroaches.de ... one of my other hobbies) I use Steinberg Cubase (pretty old version). I haven't yet done any music in games, but I am planning to have (at least) some music for the menues in the next game.

You could either spend a lot of time writing your own music or search the web for free music. One other possibility is to go to a musician's forum (e.g. http://www.homerecording.de if you speak german) and ask there (politely). At least in this forum (that I visited regularely some time ago) there are a lot of people of whom I think they would be happy to have some music released in a game.

Fruity loops is a fantastic way of creating music, and is worth learning

However most people don't have the time/ creativity to make music for their games. The best thing to do is troll around music making communities and mooch off someone who is willing to help you
