A Field of View Class

I am working on the AI for my game and I am trying to make a class that will basically check the field of view for objects, entities, and weapon/items. The problem is I am not sure of the best way of doing this using irrlicht variables and functions, so my questions is if anyone has worked with this type of thing before can that walk me through this.Thanks
