Hi all from theSpecialist Ltd

I will be blunt, we are looking for a jump forward in our project and have decided to offer a decent award for the following rolling demo:-

- themed horror, any type of bmovie style bloodbath is acceptable, from zombies eating each other to a spooky house with erie ghosts jumping out of the walls, sicker the better
- must feel creepy,
- must make the viewer jump at least once
- must include sound as without it wont make anyone jump
- must write the word "murmuur" accross the screen in blood or similar erie text
- no player controls, must be a camera following a path and in a continuous loop
- must look graphically impressive, the use of shaders is highly recommended, xeffects being a good bypass if you are not skilled with this, if you feel you dont need shaders to meet the graphically impressive requirement then create without, you wont be at a disadvantage, your work will be judged mainly by the end result
- must purely use the irrlicht 1.6 engine, ie no external libs
(except sound, openAL is prefered but use whichever you feel most familiar)
- must not use any copyrighted sounds, images or meshes
- dont worry about slow computers, this is for hi spec computers only

as the above clearly will use up a good amount of time we will obviously offer a substantial reward to the top 3 entries

because of the shaders??? you can use other peoples, doesnt have to be original shader code, I always used to cheat and use XEffects for post process ;0)

I'm definitely entering. But I have a couple questions. Are we allowed to use Irrlicht addons? Like XEffects, or IrrAI? I want to do something with XEffects.
And also, what is a rolling demo? Is it the animation that plays in the splash screen?

Ok then I will try to release the new XEffects ASAP so everyone can use soft VSM shadows and post process water (Okay maybe not relevant...) in their entries!

arggghhhh, very true, sound in my project is with openAL which would be prefered, but for ease use whichever sound library you feel most comfortable with

you can use any of the irrlicht addons, just not things like freetype as these can be a pain to merge in with my code and a rolling demo is one where the camera follows a path (spline?) through the level and all user input is ignored, just think of it more like a movie in a loop rather than a game where you navigate around the level

i think we would all like a copy of that n stuff

when is the deadline? May have extra time once I get my game demo in working order and it would fit well with this competition. Though if it is in a month or so then I am not sure how functional things will be and if I will be able to jump in.

Is the use of shaders a must, since nice graphics could be done without their help with some talant and imagination? I believe the most important thing is the nice idea, its realisation and the whole feeling of the "game", isn`t it?
