DMC - a game by gm-squared

Post by TGGC »

Many years ago a team of hobbyists formed a group called "gm squared". We set out to make new inspired games but never reached our goal. More and more people dropped out because of lacking free time. 6 years ago we had a 3D Engine ready to build games upon. We even managed to put together a small game, but we considered it unfinished and imperfect. We never released it. Until now, when I found this gem on an old HDD of a no longer working PC.

It is a small and action packed game in 3D. First, you equip your gun turret with two weapons of your choice. As soon as you start the game, tanks are coming your way and try to hit your turret, so you have to be quicker and kill them first. You aim with mouse and shoot with the two mouse buttons. Kill multiple targets at once to get bonus points. If you score well enough you may even earn a highscore. It includes an instagib Mod and a "driving mode" Mod. You can even make your own mods by editing some textfile, which describe the game variables.

Here is a download ready for you, if you want to see more then just images: http://gm-squared.de/index.php?target=downloads Just one drawback - as our whole team were germans, everything is in german. If you cannot figure out our homepage, just use this direct link to the download: http://bit.ly/aAwPoW

I saw same people using google translate to browse our page. There might be one more interesting thing to find there, we made
the sourcecode of the game logic available for download too: http://bit.ly/a0pAUn

Maybe someone wants to have a look? Once again, most commentary in german.

Not bad. Would be shame to get lost this way. :P

What I like the most is the tank/turret customization, the tank physics and behaviour. The models and textures are good too. Yeah, I know it is unfinished and just a demo, but here are some things that coul`ve improved it a bit- what is missing is a little variety of:
- tank models (at least two more textures- who`s a friend, who`s a foe?)
- objectives
- maps
- once choice is missing IMO and it is the choice to be from the attacker`s team.
- the goal was unclear- one state in before the start like "protect the tower" or "stay alive for as long as you can" would`ve been useful.
- too difficult. I`d start first round with say 8 tanks exp. level 1, when you defeat them a "You protected the tower from enemy attack! Mission accomplished!", Then second round starts with 16 tanks exp. level 1 etc.
- music and effects sound volume control. Music is too loud for the player to "feel" being on warfield, where heavy mashines and bullets "take a walk".
- reminds of "tanks" game on 8-bit console
"Although we walk on the ground and step in the mud... our dreams and endeavors reach the immense skies..."

That are all very good and true points. Wuite a shame there is no team left, to make all that happen. ;-)

The original design of the game was much bigger. It would have been tanks vs. tanks. Your tank would have been customizable, much more than the tower (different tanks, armor, engines, weapons, defensive smoke bombs etc.). The towers would have been neutral and you could have captured them to help against the opposing tanks. There is still some really old stuff to find about it on the net:
